Famara and la Caleta
This 6km long windswept beach, with its spectacular backdrop of high cliffs (Peņas del chache) is world-famous among both surfers and hang-gliders. While nearby Playa de San Juan plays host to annual 6 star WQS surfing events.
The more casual surfer or swimmer should be careful here as there are dangerous currents and the Red Flag always flies here.
The neighbouring Village of La Caleta (La Caleta de Famara) has a very different atmosphere to the resorts of the South, with it's mixture of Local Fishermen and Bohemian Surfer-types. It's a nice spot to spend a weekend afternoon enjoying some fresh local seafood accompanied by a cold beer.
