Hi everyone this will be our first time in Lanzarote as me and my family have been tenirefe for the last few years and decided to try somewhere different for a change and wondered if it is just as good and where to go and where to avoid. We are staying at the Elena Appartments for two weeks in July/August. So where would be good to go for a cheap beer and nice food? Where is the nearest market? What good trips and waterparks are there? Help and ideas ....

Hey Jambo, Firstly as a hibby I really shouldn't be helping out a jambo but Im in a good mood! The Elena are fantastic appartments, they are basic but clean and are right in the heart of PDC although very quiet during the day as well. You have a Spar directly over the road from you and a larger supermarket round for the corner. There is a pub on the corner that does the usual pub grub and is really handy although saying that the pool bar does lovely daytime food. If you head down the strip (approx 1 mins walk) you will find plenty restaurants. For steaks/burgers then pinnocios is very good and nearby. Also all the Lani's are great. They are a chain that has TexMex, Indians, Mexicans, Italians and Steak houses dotted around Lanza. Enjoy!

Just back and would like to say that if your irish and love noise and swearing all day then these apartments are perfect for you!! Otherwise give them a wide berth as the noise coming from the PDC till 5-30 am is unbearable!!

Well if you like Irish families taking over and drinking BLUE WKD'S AND BACARDI BREEZERS all day (that aren't purchased from the bar) then this is brilliant for you!! With the foul language (and not just from the adults) happening all day long!! Not recommended is the BBQ as there is not enough to go round.....!!! How anyone can recommend these apartments is beyond me!!

To be honest with you Lanzarote isnt half as good as Tenirefe its more like Blackpool but with the sun. Everything in Puetro del Carmen is on the one strip with only a few bars off the main strip. Full of awful Irish Families taking over the place. They only drink in the Irish bars and walk up and down the strip as most come for 3 or 4 weeks!!

jambo222,
As chrisd suggests, Puerto Del Carmen is not Lanzarote, it is just that there is a part of it where people such as those you mention gather (and I mean the type of people, not where they come from), which means other places, even in PDC, are relatively free of them. There are places on Tenerife, and on mainland Spain which are as bad, if not worse!

I have to agree with Walker, I always stay at Matagorda end of PDC where it is really really peaceful and you just do not get any scum here. I jump in and out of the party areas on the odd night if I feel like it. But have to say, Lanza is a different world to Tenerife where I doubt I will ever go back to. In Lanz you may get a small number of the type of people you describe, but Tenerife is riddled with them. I can't say if you'd be better suited to PB or CT, (I find them too quiet, and I do like quiet) but maybe give PDC another chance, swerve the package deal and do a private rental next time.

Not me Robert. The Irish are fab and my love of Lanza is partly due to the large number of Irish tourists compared to the usual English dominance of other Canary Isles. I can't stand scum, doesn't matter where they're from .....England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales....Scum are scum
