Hi, my hubby and I are coming to Lanza on Thurs, as this is our 1st visit we would love some pointers in the right direction; i.e. good bars, places to eat etc.. we are staying at the Jable Bermudas and was horrified yesterday to see the mention of 18-30's. We booked our holiday before xmas and have only just seen this. Thankfully I noticed this doesn't start until beginning of June, but can honestly say we wouldn't have even consider it if there had been a mention of 18-30's. Not that I think they are all bad or anything as I have one 19 myself but just not the crowd I want to lie by the pool with! What is weather like at the mo, do I need to bring a cardi for evening? Is the exchange rate better in Lanza than UK? Any info would be a great help, thanks :D

Viv,
Jable Bermudas is pretty well located in PDC, it’s up a short (but steep) hill just about 200 mtrs from the main strip and beach and about 10 mins walk to the Old Town. There’s loads of decent shops bars and restaurants on the main strip and in the Old Town, there’s plenty of tat shops as well but these are easily avoided.
Not sure what sort of bar or eatery you would prefer but there/s loads of choice within just a few mins walk. There really is a huge choice, are you looking for anything in particular ?
Jable is a pretty laid back complex, there’s a good pool and bar but no entertainment or pool games etc, just a little music from the bar, so poolside is usually quiet and relaxing. Complex rule is no noise after 11 pm. It remains to be seen what effect of 18-30 will have ?
Weather should be scorchio, but after a day in the sun you may feel the need for a cardi in the evenings (if you're a bit nesh).

Cheers - Ole

Thanks for the tips, I'm pleased we're pretty central. We are in our late 40's so definitely not looking for a nightclub scene but don't mind a bit of a boogie after a few drinks for the Dutch courage lol! We would probably be looking for a couple of nights in a bar with some live entertainment, maybe a night for a nice meal (willing to try anything) and maybe a couple of quieter nights in a bar with good crack. Are we ok to just get a taxi from the airport? I have seen something mentioned about roadworks so unsure how this would impact on getting around the resort.

Oh thanks, that sounds just up our street, I will make a point of searching you out. Are you within walking distance of the Jable and which direction should we head off in?

Best place for Live entertainment (IMHO) is Charlies bar in Centro Atlantico.
Go down to main strip (face to the right outside Jable reception and first right again at Spar), turn left at the strip (beach road), Centro Atlantico is a small complex of bars about 300 mtrs along, Charlies Bar is on the top floor, good for live music. Just before C/Atlantico you’ll go past the American Indian bar on the strip which also has live music.
Lots of quiet places to go, especially the Old Town, there’s also a half decent shopping center on the way to the Old Town called Biosfera.
Local bars include Linekers (loads better than it’s namesakes elsewhere), Galleon, Spanish Inn, Sports Bar and Spenders which is just behind and along from C/Atlantico. Just by Jable reception is El Campesino bar which is a late night bar with live guitar Spanish music, very intimate and ultra-friendly. Love it or hate it you’ve GOT to try, even if just for a nightcap.
There’s a good restaurant just at the back of Jable (across road from reception and along the passage. Ponderosa on the strip is a decent ‘all rounder’ restaurant. Casa Parmaglia (sp ?) near the Fariones (down to strip turn right, walk for 5 mins and it’s on the left as the road turns right) is excellent, Magnolia just past Biosfera and several by the Old Town harbour incl La Lonja and Casa Roja. But there’s really loads and experimenting is half the fun.
Taxi from the airport is a bit of a nuisance because there’s likely to be a big queue, especially on a Thursday. Your heart will sink when you see it, but it goes down quite quickly. Alternatively walk across to the Domestic Terminal where queues are smaller.
BTW Airport taxi drivers often aren’t familiar with Jable, It’s on Calle Bernegal but they don’t know that either. Here’s a map, search for Jable and it’ll highlight it for you, you’ll have to zoom in a bit, would be a good idea to print this and show the taxi driver.

Viv,

The Ironman is virtually on your doorstep. The swimming circuit is on the nearest part of the beach to Jable and the Cycling and running start and finish lines are there also. There’s viewing stands there also and a selection of bars – watching is thirsty work !

BTW Cymmon,

The Restaurant I was asking about by The Fariones which nobody could remember the name of in Spenders is "La Casa del Parmigiano".

Bit pricey but Top Notch.

thanks Sue, for the directions, so we will definitely drop in. Thanks Mick for the ciggie info; we don't smoke but Mum has asked us to bring some back for her. Is the allowance still only 200 each from the Canaries ? What price are they going for now?
Cheers
Viv
