Been very lucky with the weather this January in Lanzarote, in fact of all the 5 times Ive been, 3 in Jan it´s been the best ever, day after day of deep blue sky and cloudless skies, Ive never seen the beach as busy which then makes you ask the question why are so few people spending any money in the bars and restaurants, from what I can see alot of the bar owners are really trying hard to lower prices and offer value for money yet are still empty, it´s the dumb british bringing their newly found bad habits over to this great island, why buy a pint when you can buy a can from the supermarket, it´s absoloutely pathetic, I mean why bother going on holiday at all if your going to be such a tight arse. Ive tried to support them as much as poss and get the best value. Best bars would be hard to say there´s that many but we liked Spenders and the best restarants Bodeca in the old town and also a french restaurant called Mautfatre or something like that it´s next to the Craic and Creol Irish Pub on the hill, this french place did a great 3 course meal of high quality for 15 Euro. Also must mention La Longa taps bar in old town harbour, unbeatable for lunchtime tapas. Best Breakfast spanish place next to Sportsman bar at Matagorda. We love the Irish but there are not many here this year. their bars seem to be well down on last year and the Guinness not very good as it´s not flowing. Also Fishbowl bar a german place going up the hill towards Balcon Del Mar is a nice little bar to watch the sun go down over the mountains outside, a dinky little bar. Purple Turtle lovely people and nice homecooked food and Crowded House are a nice couple who deserve better support at night, she is a lovely genuine girl. Can I say to any of the PR´S who relentlessly try to drag you into their bars and cafes in the new town, try and understand I would be more likely to come in if you didnt do it, I understand why you do it but in my opinion it fails to work and you should try other ways. Summing up Love the place still even if parts look grotty, the new pedestrian friendly front is much better, I think there are too many bars obviously but hope the ones that deserve to survive and you give them your Euros whatever the budget your on give them your support, cheers

Real good quote Dan "dumb British bringing their newly found bad habits over to this great island", if it wasn't for us dumb British then all the bars would be closed for good. Have you been awake for the last 18 months? There has been a GLOBAL recession and people do not have the money to splash out like they would like to. I myself was made redundant in May 2009 and have not found work since (not for want of trying), but I will still be in CT in June, spending money that really I could do with keeping. Yes I have booked All Inclusive, but I will still visit bars and restaurants although it will not be every night because I don't have the money to go out that often. Please do not knock us "the dumb British" who still like to go on holiday even though it may be on a budget!
