Here is a pic taken this evening at the town beach Playa Blanca, we have a storm on the way, the normal calm beach has changed, time to batten down the hatches!

Yes, and the direction is bad. Most properties in PB are built to shelter from the normal NE wind, and this is coming from the SW, which means all ourdoor stuff is at risk.

Is this why there have been tweets about planes taking 5 attempts to land?

Hi
Yes one Ryanair flight had 6(yes six) attempts at landing.....due to the fact the wind is from South west the planes have to land from over the mountains rather than the normal over the sea approach.......problem is that runway is not equipped with ILS so the pilot can only land if he can see the runway.....which many could not because of low cloud.
Many planes diverted to Fuerteventura and Las Palmas.......quite a few delays at the airport.....longest is a German flight due to leave at just before 1300......now delayed until at least 0900 tomorrow.

Hi
Storm sure did arrive....in fact the tail end of it is still here......lots of minor damage....phone/power cables down...trees uprooted.....roads flooded....planes diverted....ferries cancelled.... couple of small landslides inland..fortunately all the rain seems to have passed ...just waiting for the winds to die down and it will soon be back to normal.
