Just to let everyone that may be interested that a couple of new Facebook sites have been set up for people to to air their views on this issue. If anyone has genuine input on this subject then please make a friend request on the sites and all ideas and input will be read. The idea is to find a way forward and to speak to the right people, in the media, business and government to address the situation.
They only want positive contribution and they are prepared to do some of the effort in contacting people but they will require other peoples help, the more the merrier!
The sites are cfcs lanzarote and all inclusive is killing lanzarote.

Nice one Steve, you starting all inclusive in La Esquina?
I'm interested!!!!!

Well, Im for it if it is a genuine non bias company. I personally believe that all inclusive can help families to budget, it means that they unfortunately miss the "real" food, drink and feel of the Island. This again is a personal opinion. I would never personally stay all-inclusive.
Sorry to restaurant owners but if the food in the all inclusive hotels is of a decent standard then please stay there, but please don't forget there are so many attractions after the swimming pool, so many different types of food, so much culture, so much to see,so many bars, please consider being yourself.

There is no bias here just the wellbeing of ALL businesses on the island, as AI affects every walk of life. The topic has been blocked and deleted on another "Canarian" forum!

You have to look at the reason AI is so popular. When we started going to Lanzarote 20 odd years ago eating out was very very cheap compared to home, probably not much more than half of the cost in the UK. Now I'd say it's actually more expensive in Lanzarote. Families and couples on a budget simply can't afford it any more. Shut down AI and people will simply go somewhere else where there is AI.

Sad, but that's the reality of it.

Sorry Robert but that is not the case, as many customers have stated to us over the past 12 months, they cannot believe how cheap it is in Costa. This may not be the case for the rest of the island but i can only state what i know. There is a certain percentage of customers around that would not normally come to Lanzarote and have only come AI here because of how cheap it is in comparison with other holidays in other countries. If you upped the price of the AI to a more sensible rate in comparison with SC then most of them would not come here anyway. They offer nothing to the island apart from money to the holiday companies. They give the hoteliers and reps a hard time constantly and i think most hoteliers would happily go back to the traditional board basis, as they are currently trying to turn water into wine due to the cut of the holiday money they receive.
People will still come here even if AI is vastly reduced, they did it before and they will do it again. What is better a % of something or 100% of nothing?

At least the tourists are on the Island. Maybe they wil stay on the comlex for 7/14 days, but hopefully they will explore outside.
At least have a drink!!!!!
In the last few years I was so NO AI and stated it, please feel free to check and then confirm it, but now I think that again as stated, as long as they DO spend money outside the hotel they stay they then actually get the right to say how Lanzarote and its attractions are.

If you stay inside a Lanza hotel for your full stay , never moving except from airport to hotel, then question the beauty of the fantastic Island of Lanza, then sorry but your complaints will fall on deaf ears.

I have visited since 1989, many times a year, lived there for 2 years, and it is so beautiful to me now as it was before.

Now I'll have to travel from the Philippines, but trust me, I will still visit every year. :D

Steve, most people I know with families that are planning holidays are looking at AI first. The only consolation is that a lot of them will spend money outside their hotels and many may return to see the island properly. As long as there is a market for it and the tour companies are offering AI then it will remain.

Hi Robert, i hope that is the case and it is sad that families look at it this way. All we ask for is a cap on the percentage of rooms allocated AI and a fair pricing structure.320.00 one weeks AI, 290.00 one weeks SC is not a fair pricing structure unfortunately!

Anyway, enough debate, if you are interested in the future of the island, please visit the sites and show your support and ideas, if not, thank you for taking the time to at least read the thread.

The benefit for AI is it gets the families all in one place and those that do not want to mix with them in another.

I can see there will be more complaints from the Al crowed because they did not get quality only quantity. There's one going on at the moment on the radio.

In my view the restaurants in PDC all sell the same food so no point in going self catering...Plus the hassle from the PR people.

I have just arrived back from Teguise . Found a lot of bars and restaurants very quite .Was told by several people was due to AI
You needed to limit the number of AI in the town , healthy competition is good . Too many and in a few years time it will be a ghost town then no one will visit. I found food prices ok but the cost of food has jumped up all over the world .Minerals cost a lot and some restaurants over charge for spirits .
