Hi all just registered today and I have to share my experiences with someone, so I'm putting it out there in cyberspace! We just returned from our first holiday to Lanzarote yesterday and I was very nervous about going as we have a 5 month old baby (plus 9 and 7 year olds!). I have to say we had the best holiday we've ever been on, bar none! We stayed in Playa Blanca which I thought was a pretty little place that had everything we needed in such a small area (the kids eyes lit up when they saw the burger king but we put our foot down and refused to go there!). We did the Tamanfaya coach tour and volcan grill, it was amazing, and the kids went from looking a bit bored to being utterly spellbound within minutes. I don't know what it is about the island but its got right under my skin. Words just can't describe how much I fell in love with the whole place. I had people telling me it was nicknamed "lanzagrotty" and that it was boring and desolate before we went there, but I found it completely the opposite - Beautiful, haunting, eerie in places, absolutely fantastic I was just in awe of it all. I've never cried when a holiday has ended before, but I did this time and it took every bit of strength in my body not to refuse to get on the coach to the airport and take my family and run away and hide!! We're now planning our next trip out, probably Christmas time as my husband has a friend who has an apartment (why he doesn't live there I DON'T know!) in Playa Blanca again, and we have already decided to start investigating how difficult/easy it is to move there, and what kind of things we need to start looking at, jobs, homes etc etc. Learning Spanish is our first task (got the basics down, onto a bit more advanced than holiday phrases now) - yes we're THAT serious! I know living and working somewhere is nothing like a holiday and that's all we've experienced so far, but we'll be taking our time and doing it properly. I just know I am meant to be there one day! Sorry to harp on for 3 hours but..... Lanzarote, we love you, we adore you, we're on our way back!! Tracy

First time in Lanza for me was for 2 weeks at x-mas '98, 5 days after I got made redundant out of the blue. Had such a good time that I quit the new job that I started the day after we got back and came back to the island for another week! The rest is history. Hux.

Hey Tracy
Your story is so familiar for many of us I'm sure ... my visit in 2000 was my first "I want to live here" visit and then a few years later I made the move to come and start my new life out here. Lanzarote is a lovely island and I am so glad to hear that you had such a fantastic time here. It isn't easy to move here but it gets easier every year with the internet full of useful information and forums like this to ask all of those questions that you will definitely come across. So keep in touch with us here and if there is anything or any pointers that you would like then just ASK!
Phil

Sounds like our first visit! Since then, in about 7 years, we've been back many times and only had one other holiday!

Hi all, with everyone on the whole subject here. We are moving over, all being well in 3 years time and are just working hard at the moment to keep on target. We are over on the 17th July and cannot wait! Can`t really say we`ve had anything to complain about and we have holidayed in Lanzarote since 2002. If you set a target that is realistic the dream looks like coming true the closer you get to dates or financial matters. The help/advice/pointers coming from you folk already there is A1 and only helps us to confirm we have made the right choice. We will be visiting Spenders (defo on the list!) and will hopefully be able to put faces to names on this trip. See you guys soon, Keith, Diane & family

Thanks everyone for the great posts, Its good to know I'm not the only crazy person who has the dream of living there one day, and there are some that have even made that dream a reality! Lots of research to do now before we start planning, I've just posted an item in "Spanish Education System" about the practicalities of relocating with children, which is one of our many worries. Hasta Luego.....

Loving all the positive replies. I for one have not yet been to Lanzarote and have always been a lover of Cyprus. After reading all the replies i cannot wait till i go there in September, it will also be the first time i have stopped in a Villa so i'm looking forward to a really relaxing chilled holiday. Wonder if i will get the Lanza bug
