hi been home nearly a week now, we stayed at the costa calaro and had a fantastic time, will be certain to come again, we loved the island the hotel was lovely and the staff brill, called in spenders for a pint (cant believe we found it, stopped to make a phone call looked up the hill and there it was ), must be the cheapest in pdc, had a lovely meal at el ancla in the old town, all in all the best holiday we have had yet, one question when ice is made what water is used, as i am suffering with really bad swollen ankles that still havent gone down properly yet, read on the internet that this is sometimes caused by drinking desalinised water tho only drank bottled water.

Wel I'll be blowed! I came back from Iberostar Calero in May with badly swollen ankles. Thought it was just from the heat, as the calima lasted for our first three days and it was scorching. Also, as I'm in my mid fifties, and not as active as I should be, thought it might be one of the joys of getting older! Without wishing to be personal, are you in my age group? I drank bottled water too, but that's supposed to be mineral water. However, I did also drink the water from the draught tap at lunchtime. Did you perhaps drink that? Maybe that was desalinised? There's me thinking how good I am drinking all this water (as well as the occasional glass of wine - 27 or so ). Perhaps from now on I'll have my water ration in beer instead! Anyone else suffered this phenomenon?

Hi Anne, I am 48 and yes I did drink water from that tap, but also drank a lot of Sprite, as I work as a restaurant manager I know this system works from a bag in box of syrup which is then mixed with the water supply and gas, my sister in law insisted on bottled pop and she had no problems, mind I suppose alcohol morning (cava) noon (wine and sprite) and night (pernod and sprite) hasnt helped anyway they are getting back to normal today, so might treat myself to some of my duty free vodka to nite

I can promise you that desalinated water will not cause your ankles to swell up!!!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking the water in Lanza - it just doesn't taste very nice!
Most likely cause is air travel!!!!!
Or as by the sounds of things you have a rather high sugar and alcohol diet is the onset of type 2 diabetes - especially if you are over 50 and over weight. Note am NOTsaying you're over weight just highlighting the groups at risk!!
So basically nothing to worry about!

not to be too personal but if you drank that much water and alcohol hope you were passing alot as well or swollen anlles can be caused by water retention, the most common cause.
