Love Lanzarote, just back from my annual December 2 week hol, great time weather etc,but once again spoiled by the most blatant ,cheating , lying and harrassing Asian shop keepers, who seem to have taken over every shop in Pdc,(hardly no need to learn Spanish then}.Just read about people buying fake JVC camcorders from the above mentioned shops, fortunatly i m not that gullable having been a businessman for 20 years ,my only purchase from an Asan was a"Ben 10" towel which my 5 year went mad for ,so here we go i thought , 2o euros he wanted, i said ,no chance ,i.ll give u 10 euros i said, now it was a quality towel with a cnn label ,so we agreed on 12 euros,i ll have the one hanging up i said, that i saw ,but he insisted on getting me one bagged from behind the counter, sure enough he was trying to give me a cheap replica, not this time mate ,as i took the one that i wanted myself,. Now been going to Lanzarote for 10years and this seems to be getting worse, and disturbingly some of the Spanish are catching on

its a pity that these lads try to ruin holidays. Message seems to be that if you can't avoid the scammers, then take the item on display, the one you have handled and are happy with.

best way to stop these despiicable lying cheating gits is to never buy anything off them.... ever! they would sell their own granny if they thought they could! i hear so many stories of tourists being ripped off or attempts at it, cant believe people still buy from them, just dont give them any business and they hopefully will dissapear.

Hi,thanks for support on my topic guys,in years past i enjoyed conversing and practising my limited Spanish skills and ultimately buying from Spanish speaking shop owners to buy belts ,fancy goods etc,but you have to look hard now or go to the inland villages, cause they all seem to be Asian in the resorts and speak better English than Spanish unsuprisingly,so i suppose the tourists have no other option than to buy there goods from their shops. I think there should be more warnings from the Travel companies and reps when they get here, and electrical equipment is a no no,not saying they are all like it,but if they can rip you off they will, cause they know too well most of the tourists are only there for the week.Just also to say,i offered a few of the Asians silly low prices on some goods,,how funny to see their charm and charisma turn so suddenly ,to being nasty, and was told by one to "go home",as i walked away with a wry smile,i thought ,yes and why don,t you go home

You could try Playa Blanca. There are a couple of shops run by oriental gentlemen, but most are Spanish owned. I'm not entirely sure that safeguards you from being diddled if you are not watchful.

It happens in Playa Blanca too. I was standing taking a photo in the main street on the opposite side of the street from one of these shops and the owner came over to pester me about cards and lenses for my camera. I had to eventually tell him to f off just to get away from him. So, sometimes you don't even need to go into their shops to be a victim.

Actually ,i was going to mention that i felt a lot more happy going into the Oriental owned shops this time round ,they never jumped on you or pestered you to buy,and they usually had prices on their items,so at least you knew what you were looking at,and i did actually buy 2 watches from 2 different Oriental shops for around 6 euros a piece, absolute gems, never heard of the make but they look brill

RobertK, I don't disagree. I just said that there are Spanish run shops too in PB. Frankly, anyone who buys something in an electronics shop in a tourist area anywhere in the world, without having first checked they can't get it cheaper from Amazon etc, and then doesn't insist on having the demonstrated item put in their hand, is asking for trouble.

Gary 254, If your watches go wrong, try taking them back to the oriental shops (with the receipt of course-if they gave you one). You may find (as I did with the one in CT) that they become a whole lot less cooperative!
