Hey there, I'm flyin to Lanza tomorrow and was just wondering what and where the locals eat? Any good tips for a place to eat some canarian food without getting ruined ;)

Any advice on local drinks, snacks etc.? Places off the tourist track. I'm renting a car so can go pretty much anywhere:)

Arrecife:

Look for a tiny doorway, if you see lots of people speaking spanish, go in!

San Francisco bar on the main street in Lanzarote is excellent. C/ leon y castillo.

Go to El Golfo and in one of the restaurants with the terraces, ask for a roasted sama. You'll have to ask for it cause it's usually not on the menu but it's one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life.

It's a huge fish and you'll need four people to eat it. The bill'll come to around 50€. Cracking.

THE best thing I've ever eaten in my life was a fillet steak from Emmax in Playa Honda. Cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth beautiful. The do some lovely salmon dishes as well.

Otherwise, any tapas restaurant will sell you the usual local fare. Canarian potatoes, prawns, rabbit, roasted cheese, salted peppers, scrambled eggs, etc. Nothing very inspiring but difficult to cook badly.

In yaiza - opposite the church - there is what looks like a bar with 2 green doors. No obvious sign. Its next door to a much more touristy place. 2 tapas - ie. tortilla or some sort of cold fish salad and 2 beers will cost you about 7E. Fab value and fab little place.

Femes.

Emilianos

Great view, good for prawns, steaks, salads, fish, paella. Decent prices.

Bar Femes (AKA Juans)

Great for estafado, chicken, salads, chickpeas etc. very cheap.

There is also another restaurant right on the edge, has the best view, but I only went there once and didn't like it. It has chanfged hands I think, but I still don't care to go there.

A favourite of mine is in Conil.

I couldn't remember the name of the place but was recently reminded by a helpful (slam-dunking!) soul. If you Google los lechoncitos conil lanzarote, you should find it.

Apparently, they don't open every day though :(

Hey

Try Playa Quemada. There is a lovely restaurant on the front only yards from the beach and it does some cracking seafood. You can see the locals fishing in the harbour and it is great.

Also if you are in PDC then try Puerto Bahia. Ask for the "Puntillas" (think that is how it is spelt!!) They are deep fried baby squid that have been rolled in flour and breadcrumbs, they come with the Mojo sauce and canarian potatoes. They are not always on the menu but most places do them.

I am out next Thursday and cannot wait to have them with a bottle of Vina Sol.

Hope this has helped and let me know how you get on with the Puntillas.
