Just so you guys know, credit card skimming has taken place at Cactus Jacks (possibly, in conjunction with another restaurant on the corner). Stay clear and if you happen to go in, definitely do not pay using plastic.

I am aware that you cannot pay by card in that establishment, however arrangements are often made so that you hand over your card and it is brought to another restaurant a couple of doors down. You don't have to take my word for it, but if/when special investigations contacts you then remember me.

I'm sorry but if you're aware that cactus jacks doesnt have a card machine , why in the original post did you say they are Quote: possibly skimming the cards in conjunction with the restaurant a couple of doors down. Surely , if it were true then you would state that they are doing this with the restaurant as Cactus Jacks dont have a card machine?? I'm not taking your word for it personally because the way you've come on here as your first post and wrote that , it's all a bit suspect if you ask me?????

It's a serious allegation nonetheless, and if this has happened I'd rather it was known about. I haven't used my card in restaurants for a while now. Mainly because they nearly always do the conversion from Euros wothout asking you so you end up paying more but also because a lot of the time your card is taken away from the table out of your sight. I always lift enough cash from the ATM now before I go for my meal.

I dont think so RobertK, I just feel like you say it is a serious allegation!
But like i said i usedto work there, and when people couldnt pay without cash we recomend they go to the ATM as we didnt accept card?
If he/she has proof then i guess you would just go to the police or whatever.

Have read this thread with interest. Have been using Cactus Jacks and the restaurant nearby (La Giaconda) for the best part of two years now and have NEVER had a problem paying by card. At La Giaconda, the waiter brings the card machine to your table, and completes the transaction in front of you, so how can your card be skimmed On one occasion a couple of months ago, there was a malfunction with the machine, the Manager wasn´t sure if the transaction had been completed, so I paid in cash and was asked to check my bank account the following day and IF it showed that the card transaction had taken place, then they would reimburse me in cash. There wasn´t a problem, and I continue to use my card at that establishment and others throughout the Island. By the way, both establishments offer very good value for money meals, and the entertainment in CJ´s is getting better by the week. I await your replies. Lanzaman

RobertK wrote: because a lot of the time your card is taken away from the table out of your sight. Exactly. If you pay by card at Cactus Jacks make sure the card is always in your view (do not let it leave your hand until it is the transaction moment) and make sure it is not scanned through various machines. Lanzaman, I am glad that you have never had a problem. Let's keep it that way! Loz, the relevent authorities are aware however it is tough for UK banks and building societies to get a case together to prove that information was taken without permission, in order to lead to a prosecution. Essentially, there is too much manpower involved. That's why I'm providing a word of warning. That place will come to a bitter end if it operates like that for long.
