I am in Lanzarote as I speak and just have to comment how amazed we are at how busy it is everywhere. RYANAIR AND MICHEAL OLEARY DESERVE THE FREEDOM OF LANZAROTE for it is they that are flying thousands of people in every week, the bars, pubs and restaurants are packed, people everywhere, Lanzarote back in fashion in a big way, all those moaners talking the place down, you are taking rubbish, come to the island, open a new business, it is thriving and we are loving every minute

I visited Lanza just before Christmas, and yes it is doing ok, not as busy as previously but doing well.
Sorry but I would never use RyanScare and M O'lairy (sorry), they will run away from Lanza as soon as they have to pay 1c landing fee. Lanza suits them now, as did Fuerteventura and many other airports..........
Ok, it does help the local economy but they are only there for Ryanair........
I will visit, already sorted but will use Monarch, ok more expensive but will always help you.
Lots of people have had no problem with that other airline but I have, so never again.
BUT, WELL DONE LANZAROTE! I will return.

Good to hear its busy, will be over 31 jan for a week courtesy of st michael ! then again just after Easter. Was quiet enough in October but seemed to be picking up a bit. Looking forward to sun and good meals in the usual haunts.
Ps we always flew aer lingus over almost 20 trips and this is first time with Ruinair but they were half the price and what ever gets us to Lanza is worth it ! That's more €uros to spend on the ground there. 11 days and counting .

We are going home tomorrow monday 23rd, had a great week, weather 8 out of 10, mostly sunny, some cloudy spells, ocasional shower, hot in the sun, cool in the wind, cold at night, if you are coming soon pack a jumper, cardigan light coat etc, as said before been busiest January ever, had some great meals out in PDC, best 2 are Montmatre French restaurant in old town and Bodeco now called Bozena in old town too, best Pint of Guinness!!! if you like it Paddy´s Bar and Brendan Beehans. Get the bus to Playa Blanca for a good day out and Playa Honda lovely too for nice cafes and walks, Lanzarote what a wonderful island, dont listen to the doom mongers on this forum, it is thriving thanks mainly to Ryanair´s new base so come and enjoy the island when you can

We spent christmas & new year in PDC, and as we are usually september visitors, we had always been told xmas is brilliant and packed that time of year. But although it was busy enough, it didnt seem as many people as what we thought there would be. We spoke to lots of bar owners who all said the same thing that they were down on numbers this xmas/new year for whatever reason, others blamed all incs. As said above, no-one wants it to thrive more than me, but the island is far from back to normal. I know tourism is up this year, but try telling that to the bar & business owners that are struggling and waiting it out until the good times return. Lets hope those times arent too far away.

We were in Lanz just before Xmas too and also noticed larger numbers of folk on the island.
Nowhere near what it was like in the late 1980s, but busier than the last few years.

It appears to me that there have been the normal number of Brits/Irish, but a lot more Germans in PB for the last couple of months.

When I first came to Lanz in summer 89 I used to use some of the German bars, mainly for their beer. It was full of Germans way back then. Plus the fact I know some German having served there for a few years. Maybe their change to the Euro has screwed them ? The Deutschmark was indeed a proper currency.

I meant in comparison with the last few years, I know that there used to be many more in the last century.

Got to agree Trev. I know a few bar owners or staff that work in bars in pdc. Can't think of any I know that are doing well. Most are losing money, for sale (publicly or privately) or closing down.

No seriously, it has been and continues to be difficult in Lanz for bar/ restaurant owners. AI has been creeping in. Numbers from Ireland / UK may not be what they were, but I can only say that them that visit regularly will (hopefully ) continue to do so, and will (hopefully ) continue to eat/drink out and support the local hostelries. We have been to Lanz some 20 odd times, last was october, but never before in January. Thanks to what I consider very good value flights from the worlds most hated airline ! we're back over on Tuesday next for a week. We eat out every lunchtime and dinner and hopefully contribute some small amount to the local economy. We have also already booked flights for April and are bringing the bro-in-law & missus with us, again, all meals out. Things will get better in Lanz, it's just a question of whether the bar / restaurant owners can hang in there. The island has so much to offer but I realise paradise is not always that for the local traders.

I said there seem to be MORE Germans. Trufflehound said less.

EL GRIFO SECO is coming to Lanzarote and I quote 'thanks to the world's most hated airline' poor old you having to fly on board one of Ryanair's brand new Boeing 737-800 New Gen aircraft, poor you getting a low fare to the winter sun probably on time like they usually are, yes you must truly hate Ryanair like the other 75 million passengers who fly with them and make them the world's favourite airline, what you are is a complete SNOB who thinks your too good to fly Ryanair but in fact is is you that lacks class not OLeary and his magnificent airline

With this mass of tourist coming to the island, I hope Lanzarote Tourist Board don't kill the "Golden Goose"
