Hi

I am flying out on Monday and renting a car for the week from autoreisen. I just wondered do you need just the photocard part of your driving licence or the paper part as well?

Cheers

You need both parts.

You'll need both parts for two named drivers as well as your passport and credit card. Its also best to have the mobile phone number you have with you as well as your address in Lanzarote. I normally keep this on a bit of paper to give to the girl at the desk. Best thing is the desk is in the arrivals lounge so one of your party can wait for luggage while the other gets the car, both drivers don't have to wait or sign. You'll normally get about a quarter tank of petrol in the car and return it with the same amount. Have a great holiday, two weeks today before I get there again

I've used them about twenty times and never been asked, but I suppose they could. I always carried mine.

Thanks for the advice! Can't wait to get back to the island, 1st time to Playa Blanca and 1st attempt at driving there. It sounds like an easy place to drive around. 8)

It is fairly easy. Just remember that traffic comes from your left at junctions and roundabouts, that locals almost always go all the way around roundabouts in the outside lane (but people in hire cars use the inside lane as per UK, and in fact as per Spanish law) and that people routinely park on pedestrian crossings, so keep your eyes peeled for people stepping out.

Parking is free on the streets if you can find a slot, but there is also a large rough car park fown from the filling station towards town. The main supermarket, the large (not the small) Hiperdino in one of the back streets has a large underground car park, free for an hour if you spend more than 9 euros in the shop.
