Firstly sorry if ive spelt extortionate wrong,if you can remember my first thread which i was fed up of trying to be conned by the Asian shops ,well just want to share 3 more things where i was virtually robbed and being someone on a bugdet and careful with money ,well lets say it hurt. Going for breakfast on the seafront (at Pocillos) the morning after arrival ,we saw advertised plenty of value breakfasts ,anyway we went for one that was 2.50 euros each ,so with the 4 of us 10 euros, thats ok,and i thought i,ll treat us to 4 cokes as well, .When the bill came it was 22 euros,so they charged me 3 euros each for the cokes, ouch ! Lesson learnt ( They were Spanish by the way) Secondly was caught out by the safety deposit box charge which always used to be about 8-12 euros a week , mine this time was 36 for 2 weeks. Thirdly at the airport ,the kids don,t want the sandwiches i made ,so go mad for the Burger King there, and this tops the list of being ripped off ,,2 childrens meals ,and one burger and chips - 26 euros ,,

And, you can hardly complain about the Burger King prices, they are prominently displayed. You could have been firmer with your kids.

Been to lanza 5 times now over the past 4 years and love the place. I can honestly say the only place we have been ripped off was after being conned into the big apple in centro, where the prices are riduclous, but that was our own stupidity for not saying no to the touts!! lesson was learned!!!! Everywhere else for breakfasts and meals etc have been great. there is so much cheap choice out there. Your lucky, the cheapest ive had to pay for a safety box is 30 euro for one week! of which you usually get some back at the end. doesnt bother me, rather be insured with things in the safe. I found a lot of places ( including places in los poccilos ) at breakfasts say you can have orange juice or tea/coffee in with a cheap price. Fair enough its not coke but if your on a budget?? do your homework before you order. theres plenty of bargains to be had. We usually plump for the burger king on way home as there isnt much else really, and yes your right its a rip off, but burger kings and other fast food stores are a rip off at all airports the world over unfortunatley not just lanzarote.

Gary, God im glad i dont have to go on holidays with a miserable tight old sod like you, this is a man everyone 'who treats the 4 of them to a Coke' as he puts it!!!! If you call a Coke a treat on holiday then what do you call an ice cream or a meal out? it must be a holiday from hell, he sounds aggrieved at paying 2 euro 50 for a breakfast and probably expects it for nothing, this embacile clearly cannot afford to go to lanzarote at all and should be going to pontins or butlins or a sun newspaper £9.50 holiday but then again that would be too expensive, we cant have the bars and restaurants in lanzarote actually trying to scrape a living can we Gary? oh no that would be too much, He's the kind of guy in Britain that says 'why should I pay £3 a pint in a pub when I can buy 8 cans of lager in Tesco for the same price'. The more I listen to people like Gary the more I fear for the future of all small businesses home and abroad, but there is some good news I am coming to Lanzarote next week and will be spending my euros normally without counting the cost and scratching around like a beggar looking for free food and drink. Get lost Gary and sod off to Benidorm, Lanzarote doesn't need you

Hahahaa, great post Gary, great thread. Coke for breakfast??????? yuk, but probably best time to drink coke, as you brush your teeth after breakfast, right? Methinks someone is taking the P*sh or are really pandering to the kids. If this behaviour doesn't desist, then they'll reap what they sow.

Initially, I felt sorry for you Gary, but really, to expect Coke to be included as a breakfast deal????? My sympathies have dissapated.

The 2.50 euro,s for breakfast was brill, and don,t be silly Ravima i didn,t expect the cokes included, but didn,t expect them to be 12 euros for 4 small glasses ,.So its people like you danair who throw there money at these places without a care which encourages them to charge more because of turds like you,i think your more suited to Tenerife to go and spend your money,, not everybody has money to waste,,and for the record apart from my moans we had the most fulfilling ,amazing time, even better than previous visits,it would take 10 pages to say all the good things and new places we discovered,,

Gary, the truth is that all of these €2 breakfasts are just something to put on a billboard to get peoples' attention, there are all kinds of "scams" involved where you can only buy the €2 breakfast if you buy a €4 coffee etc. the question is not whether or not it was a rip off, but whether €5.50 for a breakfast and a coke is reasonable.
The simple answer is don't come to Lanzarote and eat English food, there are places to get good quality, good value breakfasts that don't consist of sausage, bacon and eggs.

Or ask beforehand what the price of the drinks are and if you feel they're too much either don't have them or get up and go somewhere else.

Its the same in uk bars, you pay nearly the same price for a coke as you would a pint of beer. I dont go to throw money around the place but I wouldnt want to scrimp too much either. People we were away with recently in Lanzarote did nothing but complain about prices and when out for a meal refused to tip which I was astonished at. Youd be hard pushed to get a pub beakfast in uk with four drinks for £20. Im not having a go Gary, but I know so many people who do nothing but go on about the price of things and how expensive it is in Lanzarote. The worldwide recession doesnt end at the shores of lanza. People just expect a foriegn holiday to be dirt cheap when they get there.Food wise, most of the places we have returned to eat are charging the same prices for the same meal we got 4 years ago which i couldnt believe. We also went to majorca last year and we were stunned at the difference in price of a meal of the same quantity/calibre as lanzarote. Maybe something like half board would be better for you as you have kids or all inc. Cant wait to the summer to get back over.

dopeydrawers2008, I hate the forums which consist of people being horrible to each other but, in this case, Garry does come across as a cheapskate. If you don't want to spend a lot, check the prices, and don't cave in to children's demands.
