Hi! - BE WARNED!!! - This and far more con's happen in camera shops EVERY DAY throughout the island. Not all of them are con artists but a huge percentage are.
This is not my opinion but common knowledge to locals and police and there have been lengthy articles in the local press about it.

WAYS TO BEAT THE CAMERA CON
(Guide published by Gazette Live)
Take advice from tour rep’s and hotel staff about which outlets can be trusted.
Always shop around - prices can fluctuate considerably from store to store.
Once you’ve decided on a certain camera don’t be persuaded to change your mind - be especially wary if staff begin pressure selling a certain model.
Ask whether they have your preferred product in stock before signing a credit card slip.
Don’t let your purchase out of your sight - refuse if they offer to gift wrap it.
Make sure you get a receipt. A credit card slip isn’t proof of purchase for a particular item... It just shows you’ve bought ‘something’ from the shop.
Look out for orange Spanish consumer arbitration scheme stickers in shop windows.
