Hi All

Rather stupidly, last year, I went to Cyprus for my Feb break (as opposed to Lanza) and had my handbag nicked from my villa

In said handbag were my Daughters Epi-pens (adrenaline pens in case of anaphylaxis as she has a food allergy)

Of course these pens are given on prescription only and once a prescription is sought you then have to find a chemist that stocks them.

Anyway, to the point, I am coming back to Lanza in 3 days (YAY!) for my Feb break and should such a heinous thing happen again where could I go to get the scrip for the pens and which chemist are likely to stock them? I am staying in PB but have a car...

Assuming you and your daughter are covered by EHIC, then go to the Centro De Salud (the Spanish NHS health centre), which is the big white building on the right next to La Bocaina restaurant on the hill down from the filling station roundabout. Alternatively there are several, eay to find private clinics, which could prrescribe, but I assume there would be a charge. There are two very well stocked pharmacists in the town. One on the right carrying on past the next roundabout after the health centre, and one further again, past the next roundabout again, on the left when you turn left. Both have big flashing electronic signes displaying a green cross.

Can I suggest you keep the pens in at least two places, one somewhere that is not an attractive target like a handbag.

Thanks Walker...the prob I had before wasn't so much getting the scrip (although the Greek doc thought I was needing insulin pens!) it was finding a chemist that had the pens...in the end I had to get the Greek version of Piriton and keep the Emergency number handy for the rest of my holiday because ordering them would have taken too long and I would have been home by then...so it's good to know that the chemists in PB are well stocked

I would love to keep them somewhere other than my handbag but sadly you only get prescribed two at a time (they cost the NHS up to £40 each!) and you must carry two at all times in case of a reaction as sometimes one shot isn't enough. I will be taking them out of my handbag at night this time though...

Thanks again x

I wouldn't worry too much, the pharmacists here in PB are as modern and well stocked as a UK high street - and the assistants speak very good English, and know all the UK names for medicines. Even when I needed an unusual drug on a specific occasion which they didn't have, they promised it, and got it, by the following day. Failing that, there are other pharmacies in Yiaza (15 minutes) and Tias (30 minutes). I think your Greek experience was unfortunate.
