I am coming tomorrow with my partner for our first trip to Lanzarote and are staying in the Atlantic Garden Bungalows in Playa Blanca, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can provide me with driving directions from the airport where will be picking up a hire car?? I would hate for the start of our holiday to get off badly with me being moaned at for my terrible map reading skills.... We leave tomorrow morning so I know that I have left it late to be asking.

1. On leaving the airport follow signs for YAIZA, the LZ-2. DON´T follow signs for Arrecife as you will end up in the centre of the town. You will come onto a dual carriageway heading south. Keep going straight down that road towards Yaiza.
2. On the approach to Yaiza, you will come to a large roundabout. Take the first exit, signposted to Playa Blanca, which means you will bypass the town (Yaiza), and keep heading south down that road.
3. As you approach Playa Blanca, you will come to a large roundabout with a CEPSA PETROL STATION on the other side.
4. At this roundabout turn right, the second exit signposted Faro Pechiguera (not the first exit right which doubles back the way you came). You should now be driving along a dual carriageway.
5. at the fourth mini roundabout, turn left, drive down that road to another mini roundabout where you turn left and it's just there on your right.

Smokie's directions are correct, but there are three points to note if you've not driven here before. Watch out on roundabouts, the locals will go all the way round in the outside lane, but northen Eurpoean drivers don't - they do what you would do. Second, when you get over the summit of the dual carriageway from the airport, the outside (left) lane goes to Playa Blanca, forming a single lane, whilst the right lane peels off to Conil so watch the signs. Finally, when you get past Yaiza, a road appears to your right. parallel to the one you are on all the way to PB. Do not get alarmed, it is not a dual carriageway, there are two separate roads going in the same direction. This is especially freaky at night because you can imagine you are going the wrong way down a dual carriageway!

I would add too that at the roundabout before Yaiza it's easy to take the wrong exit and go through Yaiza instead of bypassing it. If that happens, don't worry just follow the road and it will bring you back on to the main PB road after you've gone through the town. It's a nice town so sometimes I go that way anyway, it will only add a couple of minutes onto your journey.
