Please could someone advise how good the euro rate is in resort.I am not sure whether to get money here or withdraw from cashpoints in resort.I am concerned just in case my card gets eaten by a machine. Any advise will be helpful Thank you :D

The rate in PDC is 1.23 and would imagine the same in PB.

No one but yourself can decide what to bring. You may find you get the same rate for travellers cheques if you don't want to bring cash. Alternatively a few on here have mentioned if you have a Nationwide card you don't pay commission.

If you bring money then ensure the first thing you do at the apartment/hotel is take a safety deposit box.

Plastic as you know incurs commission unless as other members on here say you use a Nationwide card and there are no charges.

Todays rate is €1.24

If you have a nationwide card, use it. No commission and a better exchange rate than you'll get anywhere else, normally at least 5 cents better.

I used mine in April when the rate in the resorts was 1.19 and I got 1.27. Over a fortnight's spending money that's a couple of meals paid for.

And you have the added safety that you're not carrying a lot of cash.

We normally take a card each, just in case, but we've never had any problems with the ATMs.

I should add that I'm talking about a debit card, a credit card will incur a small charge in ATMs, just as you would in the UK. But not in shops/restaurants.

You will be fine, very rarely do the Lanza machines throw a wobbly.
Just sit back and enjoy your holiday.

Prices have gone up in the last 2 years but then again lots of restaurants are offering you 3 courses at various prices so it will pay to just have a look around when you go out.

You could bring a credit card as a back up, just don't keep the 2 cards in the same place.

I've been using my card abroad for years and have never had any problems though.

Tried to change some Euro Travellers Cheques a few weeks ago at a bank in Costa Teguise but but they did not want to know. Could have changed them at the local Thomson hotel for 5% commission-didnt bother since not desperate.

Can you "spend" these in the shops and restaurants? I remember taking Peseta traveller's cheques a long time ago and using them as cash in the restaurants meaning we didn't have to pay commisssion or anything to change them.
