Will be flying out on Tuesday for our bi-Annual trip to PDC, so I went into town to get some Euro - best rate on offer €1:02 for £1:00.

Anyone tell me if the local babks, BdC or car hire shops are significantly better?

Fortunately, I've still got €80-90 left over from last years jaunt, so I can get a taxi from the airport :)

Just got back and it's true, the electronics guys were offering €1.05 - €1.06, better rates up past the casino rather than Fariones end.

Great you say, until you are inside the shop First time out, seeing €1.05 advertised, I hand over £100 and get €1.04 back; on querying the amount, I'm told that the sign is out of date. Only a €, so I just make a note never to use this guys establishment ever again.

Now knowing how to play the game, the next time I want to trade, I spot €1.06 being offered and wave an unspecified amount of tenners over the counter. I ask (nicely) if he is dealing at €1.06 only to be told that €1.05 is the best he can do today. Even as I'm walking out, I realise than the lack of interest in keeping me in the shop means I'm going to get the same result at the next shop. Sure enough, the advertised rate was either "out of date" or "not available today sir" at two more, at which point I gave up, got my money and retired to the nearest bar.

Roll on the fiscal recovery...
