Sarah - apologies for having a bit of a tease at your expense - but your initial post didn't make it clear that you were fully aware of what was going on re. the holiday.
I was going to mention places like Newquay which I imagine when all the boarding school kids rock up in the summer with all their cash, I guess is awash with all sorts of trouble.
I can assure you that Lanza is nothing like Newquay!
I hope your daughter is grateful for the opportunity and the chap who subsidises the trips sounds like a top bloke!

Sarah, I suspect you are a good parent and have brought up your children well and they have responded accordingly, it's good parenthood in itself that you are asking this question on this site. Can I turn this quote back to you : " my daughter is not stupid or easily misled or misguided so I hope that will stand her in good sted. There is also the worry about what characters she may come into contact with particuarly with ulteria motives but again she isnt stupid. "
I think you might have answered your own question, sounds to me like sensible parents and a sensible kid and assuming you’re happy with the arrangements then that sounds great as well. As Foodie says (I'll ignore some of his other comments !) “ Lanza is an ideal place for kids to break free from the parental shackles”, I don’t think it’s coincidence that Lanzarote was chosen. I did very much the same myself with my kids except I was there as well at the time, but they were allowed out for varying lengths of time as they grew older. In terms of kids having fun with other kids from out of town then maybe Lanzarote IS a bit like Newquay in the summer (never been to Newquay but going in June !)
There can be no guarantee that everything will go smoothly but it seems to me that things are well in place for it to do so. If so she'll have a brilliant time and it'll add to her life experience.
BTW which resort is she planning to stay in ??
Ole

The public school crowd tend to go to Rock and Polzeath where they run amock around the village stealing peoples fences and gates for their beach fires and then play music and overindulge in alcohol and drugs til the early hours which the local dont appreciate!! Even a local music festival (we know the organisers) has now been banned from Polzeath and have had to head further south for this years. We could actually hear the music here where we live and we are 6 miles south of Padstow!! Newquay is usually full of guys and girls out on the lash on their stag do's and hen nights! Believe me we often see them all arriving off the train and start as soon as they arrive before lunchtime! But its late into the evening that it can be a dangerous place. A friend of a friend got murdered in his flat in newquay last year and someone else got stabbed in the street. But its ok at this time of year It does sound like my daughter should be just as safe in Lanzarote as she is here from the feedback I have received and am feeling a lot more relaxed about it. Where my husband will be is another matter.... but hey ho

It's an end of exam booze holiday!
Most A- level students do it nowadays.
They must be a little on the quiet side otherwise they would have chosen Ibiza,Magaluf or Tenerife. So that tells us they are quite mature in itself.
The biggest danger is though the booze. Much larger measures, after a hot day at the pool can be deadly.
I think they will be much safer in PDC than in most UK towns or cities.

Sarah, I was wondering how long your daughter is actually going for? I went to Lanarote when I was 17 (although this was 10 years ago now)-I have to say that Lanzarote is a great place to "learn" many things-especially those necessary life skills! I think that it seems a good idea to me, a bit of work and a holiday as well, there are lots of friendly people there who also speak English and will be able to help. Yes-there will always be the dodgy types, but if your daughter is sensible then she will stay away from them. It is important to stick together-but your daughter will already know that. I went with my friends and I had a brilliant time-it was a great way of getting some experience of doing things on my own before I went to University. Your daughter will be with other people her own age and some boys as well and you will be amazed how they will pull together to look after each other-just like at uni. You sound like a sensible parent and I think it is good that you checked all the relevant information about the work experience. Don't forget she will be able to call you/text you to let you know she's doing ok. All parents will have the same concerns about their children going away-I was lucky enough that my parents have a villa in PDC and they knew everthing about the place I was going, which I know made it easier for them. Even though this was 10 years ago now, I have spent most holidays in Lanzarote since and I feel just as safe as in England, if not a little bit safer! I think she will enjoy the Lanzarote experience and 17 years of good parenting will not leave her-It stuck with me!
