I'm really hacked off with the price of flights to Lanza these days. It's always dearest at this time of year and I expect that but Ryanair in particular have been so much dearer than recent years and I reckon their xmas/new year prices are up at least £100. Even their prices on their current schedule for the next few months are not as cheap. I wonder if it is to do with them forming a base in the airport; are they creating a monopoly, and in turn, inflating prices? Discuss.

Companies normally create a monopoly by dropping prices below cost, not by raising them. Christmas flights to somewhere warm are always going to be expensive. You can get here in March for less than £90 return with Ryanair. They are not always the cheapest.

I try to use Monarch whenever I can. Reasonable prices and the option to upgrade to the front 7 rows, 34" legroom. Bliss on the 4hr flight to Lanza.

For some reason we always find Monarch too expensive compared to Ryanair. The standard seat pitch on Ryanair is much better than that of Monarch and we pay the £5.00 for priority boarding which pretty well always guarantees you the extra legroom seats.Last time we flew with Monarch they were charging £25.00 per person each way for the extra legroom seats !!!

What a load of rubbish this poster is talking, flights with Ryanair have never been so cheap and I made the mistake of booking early for January at £150 each return which normally is about right but when I looked later they had gone down to under £50 each return so next year will leave it till later to book, having said that Im happy to pay a fair price for my flights as want Ryanair to keep their new base at Lanzarote and make it profitable. Why people criticise them is beyond me

Are any of you guys Canarian residents? If so, you could save a bundle by flying half price to (say) Madrid, then onto the UK from there. Works in the other direction as well.

I think you will find Ryanair get bad press is due to extra costs.

Personal experience:

Got to check in with printed boarding passes and Hand baggage. Everything ok. I love Ryanair!

Got to gate, Boarding passes could not be scanned due to poor ink, £40 each charge, Hand Baggage suddenly overweight and will not fit, extra £60 each.
Lots of noise and me then phoning the police got the matter resolved, seems a "mistake" had occurred!
A MISTAKE!!!! 3 and never ever again!

Hi Cymmon, you are a seasoned traveller and know that with Ryanair everthing has to be spot on. We always print two boarding passes on quality paper to avoid possible problems and we always take hand luggage only with weight to spare. If you give them one chance to charge you extra they will. If you play the game with Ryanair they are the cheapest flights to Lanzarote from Luton.

Hi Phillloyd,
I did everything correctly. Throughout check-in passed all inspections.
It was only at the boarding gate that things changed.
Seems like 2 different systems.

Boarding card scanned ok at check-in, Baggage undersize and underweight at check-in, Opposite at the gate. Hmmmmmm!

Being a seasoned traveller is the reason I "kicked off", I knew they were trying to rip me off and was not going to allow it! So sorry, If Ryanair are the only airline flying to Lanza I will use any other airline to a different Island and get the ferry or local flight across.

As soon as the landing "helps" are stopped Ryanair will leave, they have done it at many airports.

I had my problem at Manchester, but only Ryanair.
Never any problems with any other airline.
