suzylou, if you search this site, you'll see this topic is often covered. The answer is that it varies hour by hour, will be within about 1 percent of what you'd get in UK. It's probably around 1.11 per £ at the moment, but bringing uros from UK or changing Sterling here here means carrying all your holiday money in cash, with the risk of losing it or having it stolen. Why not just use your UK bank card in a hole in the wall here? Much safer, and the difference over a week would only pay for a simple meal for one.

thanks for help - i had checked the site and someone had posted in october last year and i wondered if it had changed much since then. I'm quite happy to get euros over here but it was my mum who had said we would get more over there.

From what I've seen, if you go in with cash, they tell you the advertised price is only for traveller's cheques, and vice versa. It always seems to be a cent less that then advertise. In any event, bringing all your cash over here in sterling or Euros runs the risk of losing everything in one go if you are robbed or it falls from your pocket or bag. Holes in the wal lare much safer. It depends on how much you could afford to lose by saving a few euros on commission.

we thought about getting half now and half when we're over there so we won't be carrying all in cash/euros. It's the same if you take all your euros with you then you may still have the same problem if its lost/stolen

Hi suzylou, We visit Lanza at least twice per annum and have tried various methods of converting currency, the safest and simplest way is to put a specific amount in your bank account and withdraw as and when you need it. The next best thing, is to use one of those pre-paid debit/credit cards, you can get them from the post office. You basically put a amount of cash on the card and use it like a debit card, again safer than carrying a wad of cash in your undies......

1.12 at the better exchange places in London - but you will get that if you use your cash card in Lanza if you have ones that don't charge you.
