Which bit of Fuerte did you stay in? the north and south are very different. However, in general, Fuerte is much more desert like and barren, far larger, but with a smaller population. In my opinion, the modern settlements are far scruffier than Lanz, partially because, unlike Lanz, there is no requirement for houses to be painted white. What aspects are you looking for - scenery, history, beaches "tourist attractions" bars, restaurants, night clubs?
There is a fair amount of detail in the links listed in the orange panel to the left of this page.

Thanks Walker for your reply. My question was maybe too general. I am mainly interested in scenery but also history, museums and beaches.I presume Lanzarote is more modern and from what i have read more tourist focused. I liked Fuerte as plenty of quiet places to get to away from the main tourist centres. Is that the same in Lanzarote? We stayed in corralejo. I will take a look at the info on the left.

I live in Playa Blanca, which you can see across the straits form Corralejo. I'm a bit biased, because when we chose to live here, it was because we preferrred PB to anywhere else, and certainly to anywhere on Fuerte. The first thing about Lanzarote is that it is about 70Km long, and it only takes an hour or so to go from one end to the other, so anywhere is easy to visit in a single day. There are a number of historical sites, dating from the 14th century on. The old capital Tequise has houses dating back to the 15th century, and is much larger than Betancuria.
There are more varied beaches on Lanzarote, from pebble to black sand, to white coves, and large beaches all down the East coast. The mountains are of similar height to those on Fuerte, up to about 600 metres, with spectacular cliffs of that height in the north. There are no significant areas of sand dunes. Timanfaya is a reserve of volcanoes which were formed in the 1730s, and which you can go round in a spectacular coach trip. Nearby is the area of wineries called La Geria, which has an unforgettable landscape - try googling pictures.
Read up about Cesar Manrique, who grew up with the politicians on the island, and was a contemporary of Andy Warhol etc. He persuaded the government to avoid the rampant commercialisation that ruined Tenerife and the costas. His house is a stunning place to visit, being built over a chain of underground volcanic bubbles forming a 1970s party paradise!
Aside from that, Lanzarote has plenty of tranquil countryside. I often walk for hours without seeing a single soul!
I hope that helps.
