Hi Flying out on Thursday 18th to Lanzarote! Never visited lanzarote before, but really looking forward to our holiday in Playa Blanca, as we have heard so many good reports from friends that it is a great resort for young families! We have a self catering villa booked on Casa del Sol complex so are pretty central, although we do have a car and would really appreciate recommendations of places to get good food - local cuisine or steak and chips as long as its good please let me know! Thanks in advance Kate x

You will find that most restaurants are family friendly in Lanza. Just go with your gut instincts. I like the Don Camillo II in PB, right on the front. A gentleman owner, Antonio. Your kids will lap up the attention, food superb and very reasonable.

Forgot to mention that the Don Camillo II also has a small childs play area at the rear. You will not be disappointed.

We were on Casas Del Sol last July, you'll love it. It's very quiet and you sometimes have the pool to yourself. It was only me and the lifeguard one morning. You're right across from the harbour and there's a good spar there and a decent chinese if you fancy take away one night. The Irish Anvil is pretty decent and has entertainment on most nights but isn't cheap. Typico Canario on the front has excellent food at reasonable prices and there's a large Hiperdino supermarket within walking distance, just walk up the road as you come out the complex and the building with pictures of fruit and veg on the windows is the back of the Hiperdino. I'll second the Don Camillo too, excellent pizzas and they love families. If you like a wee boat trip the water taxi to papagayo goes from the harbour and you can either stay on for the return trip or get off at the beach and get another one back. If your kids are old enough there's ten pin bowling at Marina Rubicon and mini golf if they're younger. The best musician on the island is Alex Hutton who owns the Fiddlers across from the church. He plays most nights. It's music with a Scottish flavour. We'll be there on the 27th for 3 weeks too.

Another mention for Don Camillo's. Antonio is a really friendly chap who cannot do enough for you.

Don Camillo was the worst meal we had on holiday and the most expensive! 9 euros for bread that you don't even order!! This was the only restaurant this was done in... Restaurant Playa Blanca 2 doors away was lovely and the service was great..

Never been charged for bread in Don Camillo.
If ever in a restaurant and offered it, a no thank you usually works. If on the bill just point it out to the staff.

Second the bread charge. REJECT the bread on arrival at the table and you will not be charged. It was a bit of a spoiler. The other point was that it was the only restaurant that we were not given a drink with the bill.
Restaurant Playa Blanca, run by a chap called Sandy gives half of everything on menu to children with no shortage of brandy/liquers with the bill.
I was very disapointed with Don Camillo's, especially when it was strongly recommended by a good friend who was there the previous week.

I have always had a Ron Miel (Honey rum) free of charge after a meal.
Also on my girlfriends birthday we were given a free bottle of cava. Always superb service in Don Camillo II.

Just back and I'm withdrawing my recommendation for Don Camillo. Half cooked pizzas are not my choice of meal.
However for a decent, reasonably priced meal it's hard to beat the Restaurant Playa Blanca just along from the Don Camillo. 8.50E for a very good menu of the day.

We like Tipico Canario towards the Dorada/Rubicon end of the promenade. Never had a bad meal - lunch or evening - and the waiters are fantastic with kids. very typically Canarian, in fact!
