La Ola is well worth a visit, just 5 mins along the strip to your right and on the beach side.

Eastern theme restaurant with a large verandah reaching out to the rocks overlooking the sea (and with a swimming pool and sunbeds), so it’s a good place for an evening meal or a daytime beer, wine or coffee by the pool.
Most restaurants (and winelists) on the strip are basically geared for tourists, but that doesn’t necessarily make them bad. Most are good to very good and there’s a good cosmopolitan selection. Strangely Chinese restaurants are often very good standard.
Generally speaking the Old Town has better restaurants than the strip, but not exclusively. Taxis are fairly cheap, typically 3 to 5 euros around town.
Other tips,
- Don’t buy electrical items or cameras etc from the shops on the strip (invariably Asian run), Use ‘Visanta’ if you want any such items.
- Perfumes, cosmetics, cigs and booze are good buys – again often from Asian run shops e.g. the excellent Charlies Bazaar – ask for a discount, nothing to lose !
- If you want to see the island (and you should) consider hiring a car rather than using the tours. (e.g

- Pop over to Puerto Calero Marina for a couple of hours.

- For nightlife go to Centro Atlantico (corner of Calle Manrique and strip), Charlies’s bar best for Live Music.
- canary potatoes - small salty spuds served with 2 or 3 spicy pungent sauces, you can have as a starter, tapas dish or with your main meal.
