Hello All,
Is a wall being built around the Airport perimeter?
For the first time in a few weeks, today I walked the promenade from Matagorda Beach to Playa Honda. Along the length of the Airport perimeter fence it appears that a wall is being built, just outside the fence. It is particularly evident near the threshold of Runway 03 i.e. the Matagorda end.
Does anyone know why this is? Is the wall going to be as high as the existing fence? If so, it will destroy an innocent pleasure for many of us -watching the take-offs and landings which add colour to a walk on the prom.
What does anyone know?
Best wishes,
Franco.

Hi, I really hope your suspicions are incorrect. I've watched work since it began in September/October '10, and being back last week I've decided it looks like they are just putting up a double fence (maybe for extra security as the one they just replace was really ropey). The base wall which the outer fences are set in are considerably higher than the old and this is why I think it's just for security. Also, at points it looks they are widening the path. Which is a good idea due to the amount of cyclists, joggers and walkers using it. What they also really need is a street sweeper along once a day to clear the area that gets clogged with sand.
