I am probably worrying about nothing but I happened to come across a video on youtube shot in costa teguise Feb this year of a shark on the beach, not what I would call a "nice" shark . Now I am worrying about my children going in the sea. Can anyone put my mind at rest or in truth should I be worried? Please advise

Hi Ward100, The Atlantic ocean is home to many types of Shark, however I have been Scuba Diving & swimming for many years in the beautiful waters off Lanzarote, and I can assure you, that you and the kids will be fine, I don't know how old your children are, but like any day at the beach be safe and keep an eye on them...as for the sharks, well they will be doing their own thing far away from you have Fun and enjoy your holiday

You should beware however, that the water there is very very wet.

glitterball wrote: I was surprised to see that video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dds9Kua9HvkIt is a bluntnose sixgill shark (which is found around Britain's coast as well) and is a deep water species, not known to have ever eaten a human! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluntnose_sixgill_sharkFrom some Spanish forum discussions, it seems that the likely explanation for the injuries is that it was attacked by another Bluntnose Sixgill Shark. Thank you Glitterball, I really appreciate your response. I feel much better about it now after reading the link and can go back to looking forward to our holiday in CT. 37 days to go!!! but I'm not counting

There are no known shark attacks in the canaries mainly due to the fact the sharks around the islands are deep water bottom feeders.
