I have eaten in the old Jewel of India before but had not tried it since it moved near the Atlantico Centre.

The food was excellent, the best Indian I have had in PDC. The staff were really friendly and we had a great night. Nothing was rushed but we were not sat waiting ages between courses either.

Even better was the 10% offer if you pick up a take away menu in the Exchange a bit further down the strip.

I will definately be going back when i'm back over in Feb.

Would you say it was better than th Indian in the old town? That one has been recommended to us (we go on Thursday)...maybe we'll just have to try 'em both! :-)

Hi, Been to the one in the old town three times ( or tried to!)

The first time was over a year ago, we were kept on the pavement outside for 45 minutes while they tried to find us a table for 3, they did however keep on bringing larger parties in off the street in front of us.. :x seemed they were wanting their custom more than ours because they would be spending more.. we gave up and went to the old Jewel of India that time.

Because we had been recommended it we gave it another try in November, only 2 of us and a lot quieter so we got a seat straight away. I felt you got a lot for your money as the portions were really big but I would not describe the food as good but not fantastic.

Third time we went with friends who live on the Island and go there a lot. We got a lot of attention from the owner and the food was definately better, could have been a coincidence but I thought our friends presence made a difference.

We took these friend to the Jewel of India with us and they both said it was the best Indian they had had as well, so personally I would say it was better.

A lot of it is down to personal choice though, nothing wrong with giving them both a try :D

I have been to the Old Jewel and the new one since they moved and the experience was superb. Excellent food and service.

Last time we were over ..May last year,

We ate at the Zaffran (old town) very good and also the Jewel of India (old location) that was slightly better in my opinion,

I would happily eat at both again

Danny :D

Just got back from my second visit of the year and we went to Jewel of India again to see if was a good as we remembered... and it was :D

Fantastic food again, excellent service and still giving the 10% vouchers in the exchange further down the strip, what more can you want.

This is now officially my favourite place to eat when I visit, can't wait till June when I'm back again. :D

Hey Danny,

Forgot you went over a couple of weeks ago.

Did you manage to see Steve (Tiny's) and get to Spenders/Friends/Whale & Ale/Arthurs etc?

Also interested to see if you gave Reds2 a go this time!

Cheers
YM

Went there in December and must say we were disappointed. There were 5 of us we ordered drinks, 4 pints of Larger andapint of cider got the 4 largers and a pint of shandy, the place was not that busy but allof the food was served at the same time poppadoms with pickles were brought to us and just after they were put on the table the nan beads rice and main course were brought out, we just felt rushed, not the way I like to eat Indian food, and two of the party were ill that night.

He mentioned his grandkid's birthday last time I seen him, think he was flying back to London for that.

A brilliant place ! It's such a pity that it's not very well promoted and doesn't really have the best looks (guy at the entrance could have a better suit ;) and the sign is also bar-like).

But the food is just great, and the service! If you're ever there just ask the lady-chef for advice. She can do anything for you - as spicy as you like - and will answer any question you ask with a smile. Highly recommended :)

Along with two friends we had a curry in the Jewel three weeks ago ! as usual very good food and the service was fine. However I do agree with the comments about the look and feel of the place as well as the not so enthusiastic man in the street who tries to lure you in. Still its the food that counts!
