Hello all,

I have just returned to Dublin after 10 days on LZ. I loved it, and now want to live there...I will throw out a few thoughts on various topics. First: Driving.

It CAN be scary. I made it hard by arriving at night, but it was far more of an ordeal than I expected. The "spaghetti" exits from the Airport are disorienting and the main roads thereafter are not well lit. Probably the worst (TIP FOR OTHER NEWBIES) is being suddenly contronted with Yield Points to join main roads. Having to look over your left shoulder for joining traffic I found quite easy to forget. Even worse, many junctions have several Yield Points in quick succession, which is hazardous to the driver from the UK or Ireland, where such junctions are rare. Also, signposting before many roundabouts is poor and in many cases non-existent. Many times I came to roundabouts having no idea which exit to take. There is clearly room for improvement by the road authorities here.

You can see why it took me two-and-a-half hours to get from the Airport to Los Mojones, including a very stimulating detour through the back streets of Tias!

Anyway, I mastered it after a few days, and the rest of the trip was terrific. But my advice to drivers fresh from the UK or Ireland is: TAKE GREAT CARE UNTIL YOU HAVE MASTERED THE ROADS.

I even met the challenge of the hill at Femes, and the bends before Haria. Apart from these, are there any other difficult roads on LZ (for future reference)?

All opinions welcome. More topics soon. Now my hunt for the villa starts (Greetings to Denis and Collette in The Property Warehouse from John in Sandymount - I'll be in touch!).

Best wishes from cold, windy, rainy Dublin...

Franco.

Yep, there is a height and width limited road from the south of Ye to the Mirador del Rio and also an interesting drive from the Mirador to Orzola.
Tabayesco to Arrietta is also very interesting.
La Geria used to be a bit dodgy but now its a lovely new road.
Enjoy the Island.

Hi cymmon,

Thanks for your previous directions to Agua Brava, Calle Salinas. They were excellent - my own fault for going astray. I didn't get to Spender's, but I'm returning in October and I'll ask for you!

Yes, I made it to Mirador Del Rio via Ye. After Haria, the road wasn't too bad. From Mirador de Haria I looked down on the road to Tabayesco and thought "no, thanks". I'm leaving Orzola for the next trip.

Thanks again for your help. Safe driving!

Franco.

We hired a convertible (cool!) for two days and my hubby had no probs whatsoever driving around, it was such a pleasant change from the packed out roads in UK! (especially the lack of pot holes and road works!!)

We went to the water park on day one then to Jameos del Agua in the North and then had lunch at Orzola before heading back to Puerto del Carmen. Day two we went to Timanfaya then on to Las Salinas and Lago Verde then had lunch at the Rubicon Marina near Playa Blanca, we ended the day karting just near the 5 windmills and then headed back to PDC to drop the car off - a very enjoyable and stress-free two days touring :D

No, I'm not! Completely my own fault of course, but it is easy enough to get disoriented when arriving for the first time at night. I clocked up 30 km, but it was useful: I got to know the streets of PDC much quicker than I ever thought I would. And but for the help of two police officers in Tias, I'd probably have ended up in Orzola - or even be driving around still...And actually, believe it or not, I have a good sense of direction!!!
