Just got back from PDC after an enjoyable week, if it's of any interest to anyone here are my observations: Arrived at the airport and got a taxi to the old town 14 Euros, same on return, pretty reasonable for 4 people and suitcases. Stayed in Villas Julia which was a great position for the old town and although the villa was ok it was nothing like as nice as it looked on the internet. Anyway the first night we went down to the harbour to find a restaurant and they were trying to drag you in more than ever desperate for the business, the upside was we found all week was that in general the service from restaurant and bar owners was very friendly, attentive and welcoming in the most part, they really appreciated the trade and to be honest the quality of food and drink was very good, the only thing our party commented on was it would be cheaper to eat out in Leeds City Centre than the PDC harbour but as I said where would you rather be??? We eat out at Cascarda Puerto/Bodega, Bodecos, and another one in the harbour area I cant remember, they were all nice. One thing I noticed was the lower numbers of Irish people there whcih dissapointed me, some of the Irish bars were shut and the ones that were open seemed to be struggling so we tended to head for the new town area and for the first time ended up in tropical disco which was a great fun night out, again in the new town we found the restaurant owners incredibly welcoming and friendly and we didnt find the PR'S for bars and clubs half as annoying as we had expected after reading this forum. The nicest bars we stopped off at were Hawaian, Spenders, Galleon, Spanish Inn and a very special mention to a bar that is doing very well and desevedly so THE ANCHOR on the front at Matagorda, they are really nice people that own it and it's good to see someone doing well for themselves in a difficult climate, we also found drinks prices at Playa Honda much cheaper and it's worth walking around there on a nice day to sit out and have a few drinks, we found the matagorda area looked grubby on the seafront and the council really need to clean up the paths and pavements and in the old town too, the new town looked the cleanest area of the whole resort, all in all another enjoyable holiday, we love the island, do check your change at supermarkets as found we were short changed a couple of times oh yes forgot to mention sit out and have lunch at Sirocco Pizzeria at Matagorda, it's very good

I agree, fab review, great tips. I've been meaning to try that Anchor but never get around to it. I'll rectify that in November. You're right about Matagorda looking shabby. I just remembered seeing a drunk homeless beggar hanging around the centro when I was last there in Feb. sad sad sad.

Yes can strongly recommend the Anchor especially if you like to sit in the sun and watch the planes come into land and it's a clean nice bar owned by a very nice chap and his family who serve the drinks well and make you personally welcome, so good to see good people working hard and making a go of it and running the business professionally and being personable at the same time

Are you getting mixed up with Los Pocillos beach where the storm drainage work has been going on? Otherwise would like to know what you classed as grubby?
cheers
Keith

Hi, I'm due to stay at Villa Julia in November. Please can you let me know if the sun is actually on the terrace for very long? The reason I ask is I've just come back from Lanzarote and did have a look at the villa - very creative photos in terms of the huge wall in front of them! I asked the company I hired the villa from and they assured me the sun is on the terrace all day. Be really grateful if you can let me know. Thanks.
