Hi there
We've just returned from yet another great holiday in Lanzarote. Whilst out there we noticed that the la rueda restaurant in the new town pdc has literally disappeared! I've heard of places closing down but all is left is a shell where it used to stand. Always found the place to be of a good standard and quite busy most of the time so was quite surprised to see that it had gone. Anybody know what happened to it?

I suspect the plan was to rebuilt a new (shop)unit/restuarant on the site, however having cleared the old one away nothing has so far happened.....We await to see if work restarts, I have no idea why La Rueda closed down. cheers keith

It was another La Ola issue, illegal extensions apparently so after 3 warnings and nothing done the order from Las Palmas came for it to be demolished. The owner was given 24hrs notice to remove everything of use from the site. Very much doubt if it will be re-built on but let's hope so as it is a complete eyesore.

Thanks for the info overhere, just what PDC needs, another eyesore! One can only hope that something happens with it some day. Keith

Thanks for the replies, shame cos it was a decent place. Certainley is an eyesore and needs something doing to it, Cafe Ola also. Sometimes these decisions do more harm than good.

I know what you mean about it being an eysore etc and it is a real shame, but if they haven't obtained the correct permits, it's understandable that they were closed. If not what is to stop other people from doing the same ?
Happy Holidays Danny

Danny
there's a difference between closing a place down and demolishing it apart form the external walls and leaving it with a fence round it especially when it is on the avenida.

Cafe La Ola was closed for crimes against cuisine.
It should never be allowed to open until the chef recants and agrees that canarian asian fusion food does not work.
That and the service was truely sh*te.

Oh Cafe La Ola... sigh. Even though crappy Lani's had their name to it and the service was really slow (who cares, you're on your hodilays), they made the best club sandwich I've ever tasted Has anyone heard anymore of the rumours going around last month of it opening up again? Supposedly a lad called Mirhan from Agadir has something to do with it.

On the subject of Lani's, whats the deal with their name disappearing from outside virtually all their restaurants? Always seemed the kinda guy that liked to see his name in lights!

Yes everyone listen to the food policeman Foodie. He gleaned all his information on the "crimes against cuisine" and the "sh*te service" during his ONE visit there. Lord protect us!

Call me "Mr Picky", Frank, but I don't tend to make a habit of going back to places where the food was disastrous and the service even worse.
What more information do I need to glean??
Plenty of people make far bigger decisions based upon "info" from websites like trip advisor - so why on such a downer on my opinions?
The venue is certainly interesting as is the view but to repeat a cliche you only get one chance to make a first impression.

Although ok - never thought it was as good as when it used to be further down past Mcdonalds. (approx 10+ years ago). It is such a shame when they start leaving these places empty like La Ola and now this place demolished - makes the place look untidy and gives a bad image to first time visitors.

Bit like the place of the strip down by the Fariones hotel where the fire was a couple of years ago. Still has woodern boarding around with no sign of anything ever happening! Bit of a joke really... Keith
