My partner and I are looking into moving to Costa Teguise and taking over a business there but we would like some help before commiting ourselves. We would like to know what the schools are like, we have an 8 year old Son. Are there English speaking schools or are they mainly Spanish? How difficult is it to obtain our NIF number? How long does this take? What taxes do we have to pay, Social Security etc?We are also wishing to bring along our dog has anyone had any experiences in doing this, obtaining a dog passport etc. Any other info you think we might need to know would be gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance. :P

Apart from cy being able to help you about the island and general information you should speak to mike@grupoestupendo.com as He would be able to help you in all you require.

Thanks for the plug Jason!
Here are some quick answers for Twink:
There are two English schools on the island, private a fee paying.
There is one bilingual and one trilingual school again private a fee paying.
There are excellent local Spanish state schools in all areas.
A NIF / NIE is easy to obtain, allow 7 days now.
Best talk to an Asesoria about your own tax situation, but as a rough guide income tax at around 18% and social security is €243 per month (one partner covers family) if you're self employed.
Dogs are no problem to bring in, unless a dangerous breed, but you do need to have rabies clearance and a pet's passport - start the process six months out with a visit to your vet. There are specialist pet transport companies who will fly Fido here for you.
