Well, the title says it all. We chanced upon Lanzarote in Feb 2006. I was 24 weeks pregnant and we needed somewhere to go on holiday as our last before baby arrived, but we needed somewhere that was:
*reasonable weather in February *Short haul (due to increased risk of DVT in pregnancy and didn't think I could stand a long flight) *Good medical facilities, godforbid if I should have needed them
We chanced Lanzarote. We chose the Natura Palace in Playa Blanca and honestly couldn' t believe our luck! Prior to that we had always been to Crete, and although Greece still holds a place in my heart, we haven't looked back since. The weather was sunny and breezy, we sat on the sun loungers in our jeans and hoodies. We had one day of slight rain. But we enjoyed every bit of it. The food, company and whole vibe of the island was brilliant.
When my baby grew up a bit and jabs were all complete (he was about 2 years) we took him on holiday o Natura with my parents. We went in early March and had unseasonably good weather. My dad's eyes popped out when he saw the amount of food and how nicely presented it was etc. The waiting staff were so, so kind as our 2 yr old was very boisterous (had been thrown out of restaurants in the UK due to him giggling etc). And he whole experience was very relxing. It was my mum and Dad's first holiday abroad (they were 56 then)- they haven't looked back since. They can now see why everyone raves over holidays and even though my mum is very pale and shies away from the sun in the UK she stll loves it. She thought a sun holiday would be her idea of a nightmare.
Anyway, since, we have been a further two times. Both times we went to Timanfaya Palace. The hotels are much the same, although I prefer the grounds and it is slightly closer to town than NAtura. We are going again in two weeks (first time since 2009 due to recession) and I cannot wait!!!
The coastal walk is lovely, the beaches divine, the food in the restaurant (halfboard) is lovely and love the themed nights every night for a bit of a change. Looking forwARD to it so much. Have hired a car from plus car this time- so should be even more enjoyable as we can see more of the island!
Lets hope for great weather and a brilliant time again!!

Excellent post. maybe have a look at the Princess Yaiza hotel when you next visit. Lanzarote has always been relaxed, always had a part of me. visited since 1989. I'll be back in November, staying in the Philippines before then but travelling direct from there. Much preferred to 2 weeks in the UK.
Enjoy your stay and I hope many more people read your post and realise how special Lanza is.

princessa yaiza is lovely, but expensive. From Ireland, I can get two weeks in Las brisas for 1/3 of that 2 weeks would cost me in yaiza. admittedly, yaiza would include Breakfast, but fresh fruit and cereal is cheap enough in the shops. I would rate Las brisas wuite high.
