I have been coming to lanzarote for a few years now and i find it quite safe, however friends of mine are at the moment staying in the Luz Y mar apartments and were horrified when they woke up at 4.30am to find a man going through their stuff!,they jumped up shouted at him and chased him, luckly he didn't manage to get anything but while running out he left one of his trainers behind,so what should they do now? would they be safe in that apartment or should they ask to be moved to another?

I agree, they should report it to the police, and complain to the owners. jonnyboy, I hope you're only thinking of cancelling the hotel, not the holiday!

They have now been moved to another apartment on the same complex.
Jonnyboy if i was you I would look for another apartment as my friends say that these apartments are not very nice and after talking to a few people it seems to happen all the time here! but apart from that lanzarote is a lovely place!

Thanks for the advice diddle. We are still going to lanzarote no matter what as the flights are booked though I have contacted the owners of the compex to explain whats going on and I`m awaiting their reply and if we find that we dont feel safe or secure in our apartment we will move to somewhere that we do.

Well I hope you get some reponce from the owners but if I was you I would still look for somewhere else as my friends say apartments are really run down and grubby and very basic also coin opperated T.v,a bit away from everything, and if your due to arrive at a time when reception is closed then you will find your keys in an envelope stuck to the counter, surely thats not good because if this is common pratice then anyone would be able to get your keys get them cut at the spar which is across the road and then put them back! please find below a copy of a review that i found,it looks like its been going on for quite some time!

Luz Y Mar Apartments review"Overall Hotel Rating:

just returned from staying at the luz y mar,it seems nothing has been done about the rooms being brocken in to. the room next to us was broken in to on the first night, whilst they was asleep and they had a 10 year old child with ,they took mobile phones , all their money even training shoes!the police came in the morning wrote a report and left. the first choice rep. quickly moved them to another hotel. its seems the theives have keys for the rooms and unless you barricade yourselves in at night you have a good chance of being burgled. the apts. have no security at all, the pool was freezing even late july!no shallow end for the kiddies.

in my opinion i would not recomend luz y mar to anyone. (especially if you dont like cockaroaches!!!!)
