It goes from Puerto del Carmen to Puerto Calero on a regular basis. It seems to know where its next meal is coming from. :)

I saw one wander by in/off PDC. I was 12-14m down learning scuba at the time. Good for breathing control!

Have a look down in the harbour and you will sometimes see it swimming about, it is a lovely sight.

Are you sure it was a Manta? I've never seen a Manta here. There are a lot of stingrays, we seem them regularly just off the coast at PDC, and also occasional electric rays and Eagle rays, as well as Angel Sharks.

There is an Atlantic Manta which grows up to 7.5 Meters (!!) but they tend to dwell deep. I think it was more likely to be a Stingray as they are all around the coasts here and quite shallow, and the size is about right. Stingrays have much longer tails - if you Google them the difference is easy to spot.
Swimming around Lanzarote is as safe as you can get anywhere by the way. Stingrays are very benign unless really provoked, Angel Sharks are the same and I've only ever seen a jelly fish once here. About the worst that can happen is to tread on an urchin!

Spoke to Alex in MA Diving yesterday about this being a manta ray. She said that yes, they have been seen around here. She said it's rare... but has seen a manta. :D

Elle.

From the images on the web, I think it is sting ray that you can see down around the harbour in PDC anyway. There is a fisherman down at the harbour every morning in pdc around nine o clock, he cleans and guts his fish, he then feeds this to the them. Some come right up to the steps and take it from his hand. There are four or five of them. The biggest is over a metre long. Very impressive.
