Before I went I read several "posts" about Mario's but can't find find them now. Would just like to say that Mario's Pizza place on Calle Toscan in Old Town, PDC is as good as it ever was, with the same good-fun waiters (Fred, Boujemaa, etc etc, fluent in English, and the same excellent standard of food, much more besides pizza. Would really recommend the pepper steak ... mmmm. 10 out of 10 for us ... and their Full English breakfasts (4 Euros) are so well worth the money ... YOU MUST TRY THEM ... Kath.

hey Kath, did you go into the Crafty Cow just along from Marios? The family that run it are really friendly and we popped in most days we were there for a drink. And your spot on about Marios, great place.

We went up to Mario's, and had the full "English" and it was good, never ate there at night, usually go to La Chalana, the mixed Kebabs and fillet steak in there is to die for, very competative and very friendly.

Hi Guys, Was only in Crafty Cow once but in Yates's more and the British Bulldog, when it was open. We thought all the bars seemed quieter than usual for August, a view agreed with by Bernie who runs Yates's. In fact when my partner went in Yates's around 10.30 one evening, she said he was only the 12th customer all day, and he was the only one in there at that time! Astonishing really.
Forgot to mention previously that Mario's also do great cocktails for 4.50 but avoid letting Fred make you his own recipe one. It didn't have a name, (although I've called it a Frederico Surpriso!) and he won't tell me what went into it but it nearly knocked me off my feet, and to say I was bit rough the next day would be an understatement!
Cheers! Kath

Hey Tomo, Where is the La Chalana? What part of town, or a street name please? Thanks, Kath.

La Chalana (The Flatboat)is Spanish run, and can be found as follows.
Walk past Montana Tropical (on your right, pass Mario,s) on Calle Toscan passing the 11 new private villa,s (currently being built) and turn right onto Calle Los Afrechos, down the hill to the "T" junction with Calle Teide. La Chalana is on the left hand corner, with El Puerto on the right corner. Happy eating.

Ah, I remember walking past it on our way back upwards having been down at the fair in the harbour. Yes, it looked very tempting but in only 2 weeks it's hard to try and eat at all the ones that tempt you isn't it? I'll make a note of it for next time, thanks, Kath.

Tezz, I have yet to find him drunk! But yes, a great laugh whatever, and so fluent in English. I like the way they all are with the children, they can make a 6-year-old feel very special, especially when the parents wish the 6-year-old was tucked up in bed! Nothing is too much trouble where children are concerned, anywhere in Lanzarote we found.
Anyway, I was very priveleged to meet Fred's wife, (of 6weeks,) very young, (19) very pretty, blonde and English! (surprisingly!) And his Mother-in-Law who was a lovely lady from Blackburn. His lovely young bride, Kathryn, must think she's hit the jackpot. Oh ... if only I was about 20 years younger ... !!! Dream on .... Kath
