Just booked to go back to Matagorda on 14th March, so excited!! This will be our 4th time to Matagorda, but has been about 18 months since we were last there, anyone noticed any changes? Anyone know if John & Lin are still in the First & Last in the Commercial Centre?? Four & a half weeks to go, can't wait!!

We were there in September. Was a lot quieter than the previous year though. still a good crack in the bars, although chevs has closed down, apart from that its pretty much the same. back ourselves in 9 weeks although we are staying in central pdc this time, but we will be going into matagorda to see some friendly faces at the bars one night.
have a good hol ! :D

Hi Steph

I came back from Matagorda a couple of weeks ago and as djjakeuk said, it is a lot quieter than it was in the past but, you'll still have a great time anyway, I know I did.

As said previously, Chevs has closed but he's doing a few nights DJ'ing over at Barties if you wanted to pay a visit.

The First and Last is definitely still open, and there's also a new bar opened, upstairs next to Rockola. I think it was previously a Hawaiian Bar, but is now called The Stage Door Cafe/Bar.

Like I say, it is quieter, but I still had a great time!

Thanx Steph, forgot to mention that there is a new bar, used to be the vegas lounge ( i think it was called ) anyway you cant miss it, sorta above the Spar. Owners from belfast, and as we also hail from the north, we ended up getting chatting and getting in rather a mess in there one night. Had a few Serious cocktails !!!!! Good crack and well worth a visit. Only downside was I fell on the seafront on a dodgy paving stone on the way back to our villa and broke me nose, lol.
give us a wee report when u get back :D

Oh sounds good, will definitely give it a try. Usually end up in the First & Last every night though, the craic with John, Lin & Eamonn is always great, building up a wee stock of Terry's Chocolate Oranges for Eamon as we speak!

Hope your nose is on the mend, we've all been there after a few too many but not good! Where in the North are you from?

Will definitely post a wee report when we get back - four weeks tomorrow until we go!

Steph

Im from Newtownards.
9 weeks till we go. clock seems to be ticking really slow.
I'll have to pop in to Barties and see Chev. he was a legend to us on our first visit a few years ago. shame his place is no more :(

Oh I'm just up the road from you, live just off the Upper Newtownards Rd, small world eh?!

Love La Brisa too, it & Paradise Beach are definitely my favourites. We've gone all inclusive this time, which we've never done before (always been self-catering) but the difference in price between SC & AI was so little it was silly not to, so still planning on going out for dinner & drinkies at nights.

Where are you staying? We're in Sol Morromar this time. I'll be home & in the depths of depression cos my hols are over ?& you'll just be jetting off

The last 2 trips we have rented a villa at villas jameos, just past sol lanzarote hotel. but we have decided to try PDC this time round and are staying at la penita. Really gonna miss having our own pool etc, but this was a last minute decision to go at this time of year and the villas were silly money ( almost £1000 more !!! ) compared to september when we normally go. got a pretty good deal on la penita which gets good reviews, and we arent too far away from matagorda either, to head in for a meal and a few jars :D

Look forward to hearing what you think of staying in PDC compared with Matagorda. I just love the fact Matagorda is so quiet and am not overly keen on PDC, quite happy to wander in during the day for shopping but just not keen on it at night, don't know why, just something I can't quite put my finger on, just my opinion though and it would be good to get a comparison from someone who has stayed in both.

I've stayed in PDC and Matagorda Steph - my first ever visit was PDC, but ever since then its been Matagorda every time. And like you, I just cant put my finger on it .... I'm happy to wander into PDC during the day and will have the odd night out there, but I prefer the laid back atmosphere in Matagorda at night time!

To me, Matagorda feels like my second home!

Thought I should also give a mention to my new "local" since Chevs closed down ..... you should give the Funny Farm a try. Its on the opposite side to Chevs, downstairs tucked away in the corner. Its a family run bar, Tony, Penni, and their son Matty. Chev can also be found propping up the bar occasionally! Great fun x

Yes, it should be interesting to compare. although we plan to head into matagorda a few nights. i agree, i love the atmosphere of matagorda and were sad that we arent in the heart of it this year. we tried the funny farm for the first time when we were there in sept last year. there was only around 10 people in, but it was good laugh with the games they got people involved with, which netted people free shots.
Just a pity that it was quite quiet last year. Roc ola was very good last year though as well, a decent wee crowd most nights.
wee question for anyone who can help. how do we get a taxi back from matagorda at night to pdc? never seen any sitting about the place, or can you ring them like home and order one etc. never had to do this so havent a clue

Yep, I quite like Rockola too, but I find it has a little more mature (shall we say) clientelle!

I've been in Funny Farm with just a handful of people but they always get the banter going on and make sure people join in and dont feel left out!

I've never had to travel out of Matagorda at night, but I know there's a taxi rank, just up the hill, kind of behind CC Matagorda. I guess most bars would either point you in the right direction or might be kind enough to call the taxi for you.

Prob just missed you in September Jake - I was there first week of Oct (then again in Jan)!

Hope you both enjoy, Steph and Jake ... I'm jealous of you both!
