We are coming to Playa Blanca for New Year and normally when we travel abroad we take mostly traveller's cheques and some local currency. However, last year whilst at another Canary Island and staying in a private villa rather than a complex we had trouble exchanging our traveller's cheques for cash ie, the bank was only open limited hours. So we are wondering how easy this will be in Playa Blanca.

Any ideas please?

Head for the Sara ciggie/drink shop in the pedestrianised area. (No affiliation with the SARA charity on the Island though). It's on the right as you head towards the port. Just past cafe 34. They will do all that you need, and are open long hours too. They're also the best place for your bargain booze. It's the only shop of that ilk that we ever use. The guys in there look after us well.

Solbank closes at 4:30 during the winter months, and is further along from Sara... on the left, just before the port.

Abvsolutely agree, Robert. Normally I recommend that. But in this case, I think it's a bit late to apply for one [:p]

would you not consider opening a EURO account with either your own bank or another and getting a debit card on that account? that way, you will save on currency exchange fees. if you are intending to holiday in euroland, you save.
