hi
i have booked flights for the period from 10th dec to 12th jan and will be staying in Tahiche at a villa i have found.
can anyone please advise me upon the following
can anyone give any advice as to the locality of tahiche and distances to nearby places by foot or public transport.?
also where is the best/cheapest place to go shopping in that area if any?
any local parks with swings etc for small children?
i plan to live out there like i would at home really so dont want to be splashing out on trips all over as have 5 children, im seeing it more as a winter escape from english weather
:D
i looked at car hire but for a 7 seater was 890 cheapest quote for a 7 seater so not going to bother as would prefer just to use local buses if i can.
sooo any advice to cost of living, things to do, ways to stop going outta my mind would be great.
thanks
pinky

edit
ive never been to any of the canary isles before so totally clueless apart from what ive read on the internet as was going to cyprus before but the weather is a bit unpredicable there and oh demanded we go to the place with least rainfall lol.
i do speak some spanish though but its dominican spanish which i learnt when i lived in dominican republic for 6 months when 17 and may be a bit different to real spanish and very rusty now lol

tahiche is in the middle of nowhere so you will probably need that hire car.there is one bus but it only runs a few times a day.

what is the distance from tahiche to the coast?
i cant afford an extra grand for the hire car though and dont want to drive anyway as wouldnt be confident with small kids in the car.
i understand tahiche has some type of shops doesnt it, the villa owner said it is a 40 minute downhill walk to beach and there are local shops etc..is this untrue ?
she also said i could get shopping delivered from one of the supermarkets if i ask for it so was thinking of doing a big shop to get the major load out of the way if that is allso true lol
what is at tahiche..nothing?
im a bit disturbed now lol, its only 100 deposit i will lose but is it better to go somewhere else if its really remote?
i dont mind a bit of walking as it keeps me fit but if its a 21/2walk to civilisation i dont think the kids will survive it, we have a pool at villa though so was planning most days chilling round it and getting buses to anywhere that we can if its on the route.
does anyone live in tahiche on here so they can tell me a bit more?
x

Sorry for sounding negative and Im not well up on tahiche!
I have driven through it a few times and I didnt see much there. So unless their are a few hidden gems I dont think I would be holidaying there. Costa Teguise is about a 15/20min drive.
You might have been better doing your enquiries before booking it but Im sure the villa owner gave a "great" discription of the place!!
Hope all works out for you.

Tahiche is not too far from Arrecife. Buses run at the following times;

http://www.arrecifebus.com/index.php?op ... &Itemid=42

The main site is www.arrecife.com this gives a list of prices too and info that Arrecife bus station for either €12 or €22 fully transferable gives a 10% reduction in all fares.

César Manrique´s house is nearby and beautiful.

Good luck, Enjoy.

Feel free to PM me for any further info.

thankyou for replies
hi i did initial research, for me and kids it wasnt too bad price wise for anywhere coastal, yet because oh is joining us halfway i was finding it impossible to find somewhere cheap for 7 people as its peak season so in the end thought it better to book aa villa which is what oh wanted, this one stated it was in costa teguise? yet upon further enquiry found its in tahiche!
im not so bothered about it being kind of rural as like small villages anyway , not really into hustle and bustle as i live in birmingham so its allways hectic here!! want a bit of fresh air really tbh and quiet suits me fine but we will need some kind of shops!!!
if anyone is driving through there are at any time ie to the marlet or somat could you give e the lowdown on as to whats actually there , if it has a town square or anything?
ive searched the net and as a last resort went on google earth and hovered above peoples swimming pools lol

Tahiche is a residential area with nice properties in the centre of the island, there are some great places such as the Asadero El Gallo Loco where you can get a fresh spit roasted chicken and roast potatoes / chips and tapas take out dishes (Spanish equivalent to a fish and chip shop!). There is also Pastelito a fantastic bakery and coffee shop. The facilities are spread out, there is a selection of small shops in the side streets but you don't see much from the main road when passing through. I wouldn't recommend walking to the beach from Tahiche, you could walk down to Costa Teguise but there aren't any pavements on a large section of a fast road and likewise down to Arrecife. There are buses that pass through Tahiche, you would need to go to the bus station and then transfer to one heading either to Costa Teguise or Puerto del Carmen for resorts and beaches or explore Arrecife for shopping. You can head up the hill to the old capital of Teguise for more local shops and only a bus stop or two away and the huge Sunday market. I also think that the bus for Famara heads through Teguise and then on to the coast which would be a great day out. Check out the bus routes on http://www.arrecifebus.com then menu option líneas y horarios for the timetables and routes. Alternatively just hire a 7 seater for a few days at a time when you want to get out or do a big shop and not for the full month.

Selling Tahiche to you as being near the beach is a bit naughty - as to me its an inland village....BUT...nowhere is far from the beach in lanza so its hardly a disaster. Tahiche is a hamlet by UK standards.

What you could do as a compromise would be to hire a little runaround to do the shopping in etc - should get for under 100E a week - check holiday autos and autoreisen usually the cheapest. At the end of day not all 7 of you are going to want to go out all the time.

And in my opinion the lanza buses are a joke - but then I'm not a bus person!!

What you could do is negotiate money off with the person you are renting the villa from? Point out how he has misrepresented what he has sold you and you want a couple of hundred E's reduction otherwise you will be publishing his name and what a crummy villa he has on every internet message board you can find.....

Pinky,

Yes selling Tahiche as ‘coastal’ was very naughty and as described above whilst the coast is maybe only 6km away it’s not a road you’d want to walk along, certainly not with a gang of kids, it’s just not practical and in fact I don’t think any of the main roads are walkable (no paths) so it is rather isolated without a car. As foodie suggests I wouldn’t be too confident about buses and I think you’d need 2 taxis with 6-7 of you so that’s not a great option either. To be honest 1 month with 5 kids in Tahiche might wear a bit thin and you might want to reconsider your options, or at least try to get car hire for some of the time.
I’m sure it’s a lovely little village and that there will be at least some shops but it really is tiny, google maps shows it as the junction of 3 roads and the whole place 500 meters across. Most of us know of it only as we pass through on the way around the island or to visit the fantastic Fundacion Cesar Manrique (not sure it’s much of a thrill for 5 kids though !).
Great advice from Jules though, sounds like he (?) knows his Tahiche stuff better than most.

Hope it works out, let us know how you get on.

Ole

Sorry but I totally disagree with the above, I lived in Lanzarote for 2 years and used buses all over the Island. Fair deal, they don´t run at 5 minute intervals but it´s definately possible to get around.
They are also extremely cheap, €1.19 (with a bus card) from PdC to Arrecife.

The site www.arrecifebus.com has a list of all prices (Full).

Yes am guessing the weekly shop for a family of seven can't be much fun when reliant on the buses - which is why getting a little runaround car would be a good compromise....

I can´t remember if I had kids or not!
I think the plus car option is the best, ´cos kids over 4yrs have to pay full.
