Hi to anyone reading and seasons greetings to you all.
Can anyone tell me if you get troubled with mosquitoes at this time
of year on Lanzarote. I have an allergic reaction if I get badly bitten
but don't want to pack unnecessary items if I don't need them.
Thank-you for your reply's in advance

It's pretty free of them at the moment, but it depends on local conditions -stagnant water, lots of vegetation etc. If I were you I'd bring Deep Woods Off or something with a lot of DEET in it to wear in the evenings outside. Also try not to have windows open at night with the light on - it attracts them, as does perfume. It's very easy and cheap to get anti histamine creams and products and hydrocortisone cream here in pharmacies. I've found the best way to take the sting out is a combination of cream and Benadryl tablets, but you want the ones containing Atavistine which you get at Boots. This works in about 10 mins. Atavistine is not licensed in Spain, so they have a different ingredient, which makes you drowsy and takes time to work.

Try AVON Skin so soft, mossies hate this!

Most people like it. (No bad feelings towards Avon, it's a great product for humans) :D

Hi Garry, lol. Wasn't a light aircraft was it, (joking)
Mozzies in Lanzarote are not Malarial.
I hate the little buggers

The ones in Philippines are Malarial, thats why I just had 4 months off work!

Like stated, the ones in Lanza are cute, they just itch a bit.

OMG cymmon, so sorry to hear that. As I am new to the forum its taking me a while to read the older posts, I take it from your comment that you ended up with the dreaded malaria? I presume also that you live in Lanzarote, please correct me if I am mistaken. I trust that you have made a full recovery. I last visited Lanzarote (PDC) around 12 years ago but my sister is a frequent visitor and I gather that much has changed, for the better I hope. We are due on the 13th Jan for two weeks, so looking forward to it. We are staying at the Kon Tiki Club apartments up Cardiac hill.

As a golfer in Scotland I'll second Avon Skin So Soft, although Lanzarote's mossies are tame compared to Scottish midgies..

The plug-in repellents work really well (the ones that look like a plug-in air freshener).

You can get them in Hiperdino etc at about 6 Euros.

Seconding that........! :D

Allergic as I am, - I also spray my room every night before heading out for food.....

The spray is available from the same stores, i.e. Hiperdino, Spar; Netto etc. etc.etc....

Haven't been bothered by mosquitoes for years now.....

Cheers.....

Thank-you to everyone for the information. It has all been taken on board. Some places we visit I need a truck load of repellent and others I need only a small amount. A couple of years ago we went to Cuba (for the umpteenth time) and the mozzies were really bad. I was bitten over 400 times despite being covered in repellent (Jungle Formula) It made me really ill. On the last day I was given a can of 'CROC-BLOC' from a Canadian guy and it was the only thing that stopped them in their tracks but you cant get it in Europe as it is illegal and they wont let anyone ship it over. I will be getting my hands on a case full l if I ever visit Canada!!!!!
