I've racked my brains and searched the maps and for the life of me can't recall the name of a restaurant we visited a couple of times years ago.
It was on the Old Town on the sloping street heading away from the Biosfera to the right towards the harbour, with a downstairs seating area as well as street level......I think? we definitely ate downstairs. Quite upmarket, good food ?
The other was on same street and ALWAYS a queue to get in, wrought iron on the windows all seating at ground level ? Popular for steaks if memory serves me right

La Cascada is the steak restaurant. Still there. Not sure about the first place. Was it near La Cascada? There's the adjoining tapas bar next door but I can't think of any other restaurants on that street now (same side)

Yes Rich I'm sure it was............but my friend is convinced it at the word Bodecas / Bodegas in it, which of course I instantly knew as Bodegas Tapas & Casa Bodeco's it definitly wasn't a Tapas place. She confused me big time now So La Cascada still there........any good ? I'm only researching as we want a good restaurant in the Old Town, somewhere with a bit of atmosphere, not Emma's though. Got 8 people to keep happy and one is celebrating an impending wedding We plan on going on a Friday night as I love the atmosphere in the Heineken / San Miquel Bar at the weekends, so want to make a night of it

Not been to la cascada recently but it was good last time I went. I wouldn't go overboard but many people do really rate it and you're right there are people waiting for a table sometimes.

Bodegon sounds like the steaks place ? Glass fridge in the window displaying the various cuts of meat. Have eaten there before and although the place was very nice and toilets spotless etc etc, the food was nothing amazing, would probably go back but so many better places to go

I think your right Danny..........that sounds spot on.
I've checked the reviews and not so great these days, & La Cascada seems a bit "marmite" people either love it or hate it !
So, any suggestions in the Old Town for our group of 8 ?

El Bodegan I think is the one beside La Cascada. Tell you what I'll check it in about ten hours. Just about to leave home for the airport.

Maybe try La Lonja right in the harbour (big white building) or Mar Casa Bonito at the top of the hill overlooking the harbour. Both are superb.

Looks like we have the place.
Do we have to book in advance or is it worth the risk to just turn up.Coming out 03/11/2011 for one week.

Try Mardeleva, it's a cracking restaurant with great views over the harbour and more than average food and service. From la lonja (i.e. the square restaurant where the taxi rank is in the harbour square) you'll see some steps at the side, follow the steps up and 50 yds and the restaurant is on your right with a seating area on your left. (alternatively go down the side streen directly opposite Emma's Cantina).

Mardeleva is always a good shout. I use it twice a week for lunch and it never fails to deliver. It's owned by a canarian family who also have a family member who's a fisherman needless to say the fish is always superb.

Hello Sapphire
Eating in the old town, Emmas Cantina is the best, but you can also look at Boddecos, TJ's Tapas bar and teh Purple Turtle, Zaffran is also quite good if you fancy indian
