Hi All
I am returning to Lanza next month for my Nth visit and need a little help from those in the know.
I am coming over with my Mum & Aunt and whilst Mum has been over as many times as me, my Aunt has never been to Lanza. My question is where is the best place to eat nice Canarian/Spanish food thats a bit special that I can take my Aunt to? I'd like to say that money is no object but I don't mind paying out for good food (and proper portions!)
We base ourselves in PB these days and have tried most of the eateries along the front near the harbour (and never had a bad meal) and we do hire a car so we can go almost anywhere (except PDC as it's too noisy and busy - even in February for me - and Femes - because the drive up gives me the willies)
I was thinking of either the place that used to be a salt warehouse or the one that's built into a quarry (sorry, I don't know the names) and is the restaurant at Timanfaya any good for lunch - been to Timanfaya about 6 times but never eaten there!
Thanks for your help!
Stoaty xxx

The restaurant "El Diablo" is a fantastic place for a meal, Fire Mountains. The choice isn't that great but Chicken, Squid, fish are all available and are absolutely superb!. Maybe try Orzola or Arrieta for seafood/Steak menu's or Puerto Calero. El Golfo is close, then also Famara is not too far away for a run out. Lagomar (Built into a cliff - reputed to have been owned by Omar Sharif) on the way to Teguise is a decent place to go for a meal, but do research and phone first. http://www.lag-o-mar.com/The salt warehouse? Maybe Salinas de Janubio? Reasonable in my opinion.

The salt warehouse one I think is overpriced for what it is plus you have the whole world wandering by looking at your dinner if you are outside.
Casa Pedro's for me is where we go for special dinners - but the service can be a little....spanish...sometimes. The fresh fish and squid is superb. Normally we just have the fish for 6 and they just put a massive platter of grilled fish down the middle of the table. I would go along at lunch time and point out one of the upstairs window tables that you want to reserve in the evening.
If money really is no object then try Bodega in Uga. Its a set meal, no menu and you will always get salmon, sensational beef then whatever is seasonal and fresh - we've had octopus, limpets, salt cod all sorts. Looking at £50 a head. When you come from the airport its on the right handside just before you get to the smoked salmon place - it has a pelican sign outside it.
You could head out to La Geria and try Chupadero or Stratus - have only been for lunch though - but the menus looked good. I guess you don't want to go to far - we normally get a cab to Uga costs about 15E each way.

You guys are fab...! Cymmon - Orzola is up by Jameos del Agua & Cueva de los Verdes isn't it? if I'm right you drive past them heading toward the ferry to La Graciosa (or am I completely out!!!??) and thank you for the 'El Diablo' recommendation - like I say been up there loads of times but never eaten there - thought it might be nice for lunch after getting off the scary coach ride!! Foodie - Someone else had told me the salt cellar place was overpriced as well but Casa Pedro's sounds OK - 'Spanish' service is OK as when I am in Lanza everything is Mañana to me However, wherever we go it has to have a meat as well as a fish menu as Mum doesn't like fish so the place in Uga with a set menu might be out because if it's fish she won't eat it... Yes, Orzola is at the top of the Island. As a special treat maybe use http://www.lineasromero.com/ , who operate the ferry across to La Graciosa Island with the option of a meal on the Island before the return ferry. I would definately recommend "El Diablo", fantastic food and drink along with a reasonable price. Its still (or was €8 per person entry including the 40 min coach trip) last time i was there. Fire Mountains are such a stunning panorama, and show just how nature should be. Eat in the restaurant with vista's like this.............

Several people have recommended Azul Mar in El Golfo recently as having simply and superbly cooked fresh fish. El Gofo tends to be a daylight/early evening venue, rather than late night.

Again, thanks for your replies... Going across to La Graciosa seems like a good idea, however, someone (a long time ago) told me that the guy that runs the boat across from Orzola also owns a hotel on La Graciosa and if the weather is even slightly iffy then he won't make the crossing back...see where I am going with this? I am ashamed to admit this is why I have never been across... El Golfo is mainly fish menu's isn't it? I need somewhere that has a good steak/meat menu for my fussy Mum! but early evening is fine as if we do go to El Golfo we would still need to drive back along those roads and I wouldn't like to do it in the dead of night I have another question...is Casa Pedro's near the ferry terminal at PB? La Graciosa will not be a problem, been there many times and never had a return trip cancelled. I would recommend "El Diablo" in Timanfaya, It has fish, chicken and meat. They will adapt meals to taste (sauces, no sauces etc). My girlfriend is very particular in what she eats but normally has Argentinian sausage to start, followed by half a chicken then finishes with whichever dessert is available. Well worth the price, which is reasonable. Think was around €40 for 2 including drink, may have been less, but then again I am originally from Yorkshire! I'm there 24th Feb to 10 Mar, need a chauffeur? Was a coach driver on the Island!!!!

Mmmmm...Argentinian sausage sounds divine cymmon, would be perfect for my Daughter (who, thankfully, isn't too particular about what she eats as long as it doesn't contain nuts...she has a food allergy) I am definately going to El Diablo for lunch one day and will be going down to Casa Pedro's or El Golfo for dinner one night...or maybe do both Were you one of the drivers that do the scary ride around Timanfaya? I have to screw up all my courage to get on one of those coaches! Seems we will be out there at the same time, we are flying out on the 20th Feb (UK February half-term) but we are hiring a car straight from the airport, but thank you for your kind offer... Does anyone know what time the market at Teguise closes on a Sunday, I'm hoping to catch on the day we land or the day we fly back if it opend early enough....?

Yes, drove the Timanfaya route a few times in a double deck. Certainly interesting but was a bus driver in the UK for 18 years so not too bad.
Teguise market is open from around 0930 to approx 1400 on a sunday.
Go and see Ian Lane, he'll be the one selling U.D.Lanzarote football club, shirts and kits. Unless he's at the match.

Thanks cymmon, we land at about 12ish so if I send Mum to get the car and there isn't a 3-day queue at the Autoreisen desk we should make the market for a little while or we can have a look on the day we fly home as we don't have to be back at the airport until 11ish... and there's always the market at PB on a Wednesday - I love markets, it's a great way to practise my Spanish!!

As much as I would agree with the above suggestions, - there are several other veeery good options. One of my favorites is this: - on the waterfront in Puerto Calero. They are normally packed with Spanish people during lunch hours. Which is a good sign. Their food is superb, - also in the way they present it. Or what about a mixed salad like this: Then a fabulous choice of main courses, - their paella is among the best on the island. And my favorite would be their filet mignons in pepper sauce with spinach. Does not get any better anywhere in Lanzarote.... And to finish it all off: Profiteroles with or without chocolate sauce. I have found this nowehere else......

Stoaty, the trick with Autoreisen is for the fastest person to abandon the rest of their party at the aircraft and get to the desk asap. The rest can make their way in slower time to wait for the bags.

LMAO @ Zocoloco! I opened this up at work and one of my colleagues commented on the food pics - it does look delicious I have never been to Puerto Calero...I think I might have to now! I must say that between all of you giving me such great recommendations the kitchen of the villa we have hired will be slightly redundant!!! Thanks for the tip Walker...we are flying in on easyJet so it will be survival of the fittest to get off the aircraft first anyway. I might get Mum to poke her elbows out
