Anyone know of old villages and must see places that the guide book's do not mention.
Fly out on 23 September for 2 weeks. Have a hire car,so getting around is no problem.
Interested in Cueva de los Verdes. Is it o.k. for a doddery o.a.p.?

Cuvas de los verdes (green caves) are fine for you, they are very dak inside, but you are guided round and it lasts about 15/20 mins.

Whilst you are in that area, you should also check out Jameos del Agua and then head up to Mirador del Rio

Happy Holidays
Danny

Playa Quemada is a little of the usual track - and has a couple of stunning restaurants. The first one on the left 7 moons or something?! can't remember has been there for donkey's years and is excellent.

Pebbley beach but v. nice.

If you are brave can try to walk down from Femes.

I would get a walking map if you fancy discovering all sorts of new areas.

Thank's foodie & Danny,
A walking map? now that could be interesting will certainly look out for one.
Spent a week there last year and realised we wasted it just doing the touristy thing's .
Aim to see more this time.

Haria craft market Saturday morning....do you know what time it finishes?

It's worth noting that the Bookswap shops on the island sell walking maps and also walk lanzarote books with about 30 different walks listed, Certainly some are off the beatern track.
cheers
keith

The map most walkers use here is obtainable in UK "Lanzarote Tour and Trail" 1:40000 scale, ISBN 978-1904946-54-0 from Discovery Walking Guides Ltd which goes with their book of 35 walks around the island "Walk Lanzarote" ISBN 9781904946533 (similar numbers, I don't know why the map has --- in.) You can get them from Amazon if your bookshop doesn't have them. As krhgcrr says, Bookswap here has them, but you'd have to find the shops in PDC or Playa Blaca.

I was going to mention Haria, but you already have. The Green Caves are good, especially near the end of the tour. If you head up to Orzola there is a beach area on your right hand side just before you get to Orzola. It's definately worth spending a few hours there, get you own roof less Igloo to keep the wind off. Excellent for swimming as the tide is coming in. You can wlk out around 100 metres and it's only up to your chest.
Enjoy

Hi

I purchased both the book and the map from Amazon as suggested by walker just recently and they are very good. I would highly recommend them. We have been going to Lanzarote for over twenty years but always manage to find somewhere new to us. I hope you have agood holiday.

regards
LindaK

Sorry, can´t resist being pernickety. Cuevas de Las Verdes does not mean Green Caves ( that would be las cuevas verdes).
They are named after the family that owned the land they were found on, the Verdes family.

And their daughter was Rachel Green who went on to find fame as a reality TV star is that Big Brother style US show, Friends.

Yes agree with playa quemada (still retains that old higgly piggly canarian feel). I'd also add yiaza (voted best village in spain), uga, teguise and there's lots of interesting hamlets in the north.

Playa Quemada looks the way I imagine Playa Blanca looked about 40 years ago. There are some great walks south along the cliffs along official footpaths marked with posts.

A fairly new walk you can do now is from the Old Town in P Del Carmen round to Puerto Calero. Beautiful scenery and a nice walk. If you dont fancy the walk back, you can always get the taxi boat which operates to bring you back again.
