When we in one of the Playa Blanca restaurants on the last trip I noticed an aerial photo of PB circa 1970's I think.

Just wondered if anyone knows of any more photos that are web hosted showing the island before much of the development work.

It would be interesting to see how much the places have changed

cheers
Andy

A past and present collection would be interesting.

I think its in the summer Lancelot mag but there is a
photo of Arrecife when the Grand Hotel was being built
and that makes interesting viewing. You only have to
look at the main road in from the airport for a start!

Also interested to see if anyone can suggest any websites
or even shops selling old photo prints?

In the lobby of the Sol lanzatote hotel in Matagorda there
is a view of the hotel when the main road ran along the front,
what is now the prom!

Thanks Andy
Will have a look when next down there...

I can remember seeing a Spanish website mentioned
on the Gazette last year when this question came up
although I seem to think the photo's where not
in any order so it was hard work working some
of the locations etc out.

Hi all,

The boss at Brisa Marina (PB waterfront) has made a wonderful DVD with old (and new pics) of Lanzarote that used to be shown on the screen in the restaurant when there was no football. I have asked him many times for a copy, but he keeps promising...

Try 2 ask him, - even at a few punds or euros, its great value for money..

Also inside they have a beautiful aeriel of PB from 1968 which is very much as I remember it from my first trip in the 70-ies.... :)

What year was it when the locals tried to burn down the Lancelot ?

It must have been the mid 80's I think. I remember walking past in 1989 and it was a real mess.

There used to be a bit of friction on the Islands between local Canarians and the Spanish in those days. They used to write the term GODOS all over the place in graffiti. I never got to find out what it actually meant, but I believe it was aimed at the Spanish and was rather insulting.
