Cruse ship docks early november - one day (9 to 4) for experencing lanzarote
? pick up car at cruise dock and meander? --- where to?
? don't pick up car and meander? --- where to?
Where would you take someone to show off the island within that time frame?
Thanks

I would have loved to have done this for you but unfortunately back in the UK. Try www.autospluscar.com and get a car, driving is easy. They give you a map etc and the Fire Mountains are not too be missed, also Jameos del Agua in the north. I have met a few Americans from Cruise critic etc and given them tours. Feel free to PM me for further info. Your cruise line will give the usual spiel that they take you to the massive town of Arrecife. No disrespect but most/not all of arrecife closes from 130-4pm.

hi there....i did that 1 day cruise thing last december
it was my mothers 50th and we all went on the thomsons canary cruise....15 of us lol
we all had been to lanza before so we all headed to our fav place...PDC , we love the la florida apartments so basically we got a taxi to take us to the biosfera which is the big shopping centre are in PDC.
the group split up , myself and my mrs went with my brother and his mrs , i showed my brother the la florida as he has never seen them and the girls went shopping at the biosfera.
after that we basically walked the strip , one end to another and met up with most of the family just before jaspars bar.
we went to the beach and the ladies got some good shopping in , we then went for a wee drink (no alcohol) at the rangers bar , well we are all rangers fans.
it was a very enjoyable day , we miss , well i miss lanza every day , would love to live in this stunning island 1 day ,the ones that do are so lucky.
ps: it was the 2nd last day of the cruise , when we went ashore i had not got rid of my sea legs , it was great , to describe it.... you feel like you are walking on a bouncy castle.
hope this helps

Yeah Arrecife is ok but unless you are a modern art fan prob best to head out. Am sure nothing wrong with autoplus car but you might want to check the whole market for comparison - kayak.co.uk or moneysupermarket.co.uk is good.
Prob is that you don't want to spend to much time driving when you only have 5 hours or less to play with. So my pref would be to spend the day at Arrieta - only 30 mins drive max, gorgeous beach, excellent restaurants oh and did I say gorgeous beach. And if you have time could push on up to the Mirador del rio.
Am sure everyone will have there suggestions but that would be mine if you only have limited time.

Stick with the Fire Mountains and Jameos del Agua. These are major tourist attractions well worth a visit. Beach´s can wait for another visit. Hire a car, good luck.

Yes sir!!! Maybe you might want to point out how long that would be in driving terms Cymmon
30 mins if you really floor it from Arrecife to timanfeya. Then 30 mins on the coach tour round the lava fields. Then an hour at a very conservative estimate to drive to Jameos del aqua then 45 mins back to Arrecife.
So thats thick end of 3 hours of the 7 you have stuck in the car!! Am not saying anything wrong with those attractions - but maybe you would want to enjoy one more rather than trying to pack in too much.....

I have experience in this. Try cruise critic website for confirmation and clarification.
I picked up at the Port, drove to Timanfaya, took the customers on the coach trip (40 mins)then showed all the demonstrations. Afterwards we went to Saint Dolores church, across to Masdache (for wine tasting), through Teguise and up to Los Helechos restaurant for a leisurely snack. Continued through Haría to the Guinate view point. Backtracked and visited the Mirador del Rio via the back road. Then down to Orzola and had a trip round the Jameos del Agua. Afterwards a leisurely drive through Guatiza and Costa Teguise and return to the port. Pick up at 0930 return by 1545. Never rushed, no complaints and no speeding!

I too love Arrieta, but wouldn't recommend spending a whole day there. Other than an incredible beach and a handful of good restaurants there isn't much else to do. However, it would be perfect if all you want to do is to sit and watch the world go by (very slowly!!).
I do think that Timanfaya is a must, then maybe head down into one of the resorts if you are pushed for time. However, you should be able to squeeze Manrique's house in as it is fairly central.
Have a good one!

Timanfaya and Fundacion Cesar Manrique with lunch somewhere en-route, should be a relaxed 50 miles tour Ole

Remember two points here; Spirits measures and departure time of the cruise liner!
