Will need 3 buses to get to Papagayo.

Best way is car hire. I always push buses (or my tours!!! 8) , unfortunately in the Philippines soon so no, but, hire a car. I always use plus car (you will now get maybe cheaper options if people read this), then drive down.

The beaches are great, not my scene, but look at the photo's. Beautiful.

For info on how to get around the Island.

Good luck.

It can be done, but you are about 30 miles away, and as far as I know, you'd need to get a bus from CT to Arrecife, then another to Playa Blanca, then either the local bus or a taxi to the Papagayo Arena hotel, then walk as I've just posted in the thread below about nudism there. Personally, although I like Papagayo and live in Playa Blanca, I don't think it's worth your while . The beaches in CT are fine.

Have you been to Papagayo before or was it recommended? I ask this because it was recommended to me and I was disappointed. I found it quite isolated (a small shack cafe with overpriced produce) and was not impressed with the extreme winds (you are up high and have to go down dunes into the coved bays). It is fairly nice to see but I'd recommend you went to Famara beach which is a lot closer and (in my opinion) is stunning. Probably my favourite beach (if not place) in the world. It can still be fairly windy here but so is CT. You'd still have to get a bus to Arrecife then to Caleta de Famara, but the beach is right there and there are a couple of cafe/bars/restaurants in the small town.

I always rent a car as I just don't want to be constrained by public transport nuances when outside my resort. The roads are so easy to drive on, less crazy and angry drivers than in the UK, and rental is pretty cheap. I just had 7 day for £99 from Autoreisen straight from airport but less days rental puts daily rate higher if you know what I mean. First time with them and they were really good. I usually use Cabrera Medina and Plus Car who are both great too.
