<font face="Comic Sans MS">Can anyone tell us, we are hoping to move to Lanzarote next year and remain there, applying for residency and working there.

Our passports will run out in a few years time. How do we go about getting new ones?

After getting residency status, do we or can we apply for Spanish ones?

Thank you for any help you can give!!!

Even as a resident you will retain your British citizenship, therefore you will renew your British pasport. This is done easily from here by downloading an application form from the British Consulate website http://www.ukinspain.com - you simply send your old passports with the renewal form, having paid the fee via the post office here, and your new passports will come through in a couple of weeks.

applying for residencia is not now compulsory.
if you do get spanish residency i believe you can get a spanish passport in 5 years if you so wish, but the uk/euro one you already have can just be renewed like mike said.

cant see that Trev as you would then have to become a Spanish citizen.(spanish passport issue)

I have renewed my residencia for the 3rd time and never had this mentioned.

Anyone else got any news on this debate?

You can only get a Spanish passport if you apply for Spanish citizenship, as opposed to residency. You would only want to do this if you plan to apply to join the forces or Police services.
