Has anybody booked flights and paid for them using Paypal instead of credit card?

Monarch are currently advertising no booking fee if you pay through Paypal. We are wondering if this gives the same level as protection (Section 75) as a credit card does which covers if the airline goes in to administraton?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

We've now found out about protection when paying for flights though Paypal. Although paying by PayPal gives some protection against ID fraud but Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act doesn't apply to Paypal transactions, even if the Paypal account it topped up with a credit card.

We have now booked our Monarch flights using a credit card just to be on the safe side, the fees were less than £25 and it's better to be out of pocket by a fraction of the cost of the flights than lose all of our money.

As a bonus we got £10 off each ticket by using the promotional code 'PICNIC10' :D

You only get the credit card protection if you spend over £100 so for a lot of Ryanair flights you don't get that covered - though judging by their results this morning they aren't going out of business anytime soon!

Not sure why you would want to pay by paypal though! Don't they charge a % to put money on paypal in the first place? I guess in this day and age you want to have a range of plastic to avoid the booking fees.

As said paypal isn't part of any credit arrangement but an esy way for some to pay. You can attach it to a bank account and a debit/credit card.
Foodie - there's no charge to put money into paypal. Infact they take the money via direct debit/credit card. Paypal is good to pay different currencies without charges but the exchange rate sometimes isn't the best.

Fair enough - I guess people have a balances on paypal accounts from ebay and the like.

Got 1.13 in London today - bit of a recovery as sterling had dipped below 1.10 couple of weeks ago.

As previously stated, my reason for enquiring about booking with Paypal was because Monarch are currently not charging a booking fee for payments made this way as opposed to paying around £25 in charges for paying with a credit card. I am aware that Section 75 of the credit agreement only covers for transactions over £100 but I am sure that even budget companies such as Ryanair are able to provide return flights to Lanzarote for a family of three for under £100, if that was possible we'd be over there more often!

Thanks to you both for your input.
