Hi everyone, will be returning to Lanza on 13th April, (and can't wait!). Would love an update of recommendations for restaurants in PDC old town. Not interested in Italian, Chinese or Indian, as I can get these at home! I've read about Bodegon recently, and it seems a good tapas place. Bodeccos seems to get mostly good reviews, but, when we visited a couple of years ago, I had a piece of tough, inedible pork. I know I've asked this before, but we haven't been to Lanza since 2008, and things change. Any thoughts, personal experiences, no-no's, anything would be welcome. On a slightly different note, a couple of people have said that Buddy's bar near Bodeccos is well worth a visit for the guitarist there. Any opinions? Thanks to anybody that helps

Hi Anne,
With all respect this question is asked so often that people end up not bothering to reply, if you take a little time out and surf this site you will get all the info you require, but saying that I'm sure Cymmon or someone with similar knowledge of the island will get back to you.
The other thing to do is just explore and try as many 'local restaurants' as you can..
have an enjoyable holiday

Morning, The Bodega is very good. And just up from that is Four Seasons (Little Willies), best steak on the island And the 2 restaurants beside the Craic and Ceol, El Tomato and Mon Marc's are excellent. Thats what I recommend Enjoy

Hello Anne, I think you asked this on TA and I have answered, the places that we usually eat in the old town are Emma's Cantina, The English Rose tea rooms and Bodegon (Tapas)..Oh and Bodecos, (which I forget about) All are excellent and offer a very warm welcome. Happy holidays Danny

Thanks to anybody that helps Hi Anne, It's probably Rory (ex Revs man) that your friends were talking about. Rory is now alternating between the Craic n' Ceol (beside the Biosfera) and Charlies (Centro Atlantico), and is still well worth checking out - though he doesn't do the kind of stuff in the Craic or Charlies there that he used to do in Buddy's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIDDay6HHBg

Hi Anne Buddy's bar is now closed, this happened around 2 months ago, however they have re-opened, but in a different location. Buddy's is now in the La Hoya centre, where there are several bars. The unit it's now in used to be a music bar called Soul Sista. The band who now play there were at the old unit and are a 4 piece band, 3 guitarists and a drummer and they are definately worth going to see.

I personally like La Lonja the big white building in the harbour or Mar Casa Bonito at the top of the harbour with excellent views.

Hi all Thanks for all your replies. Know it's been asked a million times before, but you can't beat current recommendations. For all of you that took the time, thanks very much! All very much appreciated.

Well, back in Blighty, and after all the uproar and worry, am very grateful to be so. There are many people still stranded in Lanza, some that have been there for three weeks and won't be returning until the beginning of May . We were very lucky that our flights to & from weren't affected, but when we were out there, had no idea when or how we would return, as we could get no info. We love Lanza, but were terrifed at the thought of being stuck there with no finite date to return Any road up, we had a few trips out to eat, but not as many as would have liked, simply because of the situation. On a recommendation on tripadvisor, when to El Ancla first of all, and hated it. Reviewed on said site, so nuff said. On a happier note, we visited Puerto Bahia, Emma's Cantina in PDC and Emilianos in Femes. Had a smashing meal with beautiful sunset views and superb service in PB, great mexican food (best ribs we've ever had, and a very warm welcome) at EC, and a lovely canarian stew with crusty bread at lunchtime at Femes. Thanks to all that bothered to help me - if anyone wants fuller info about where we ate, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Glad you had a great time Anne, I know how you must have felt. Excel went bust the day after we flew out in 2008 and couldn't get any info about our return. Glad all worked out for you and that you enjoyed your Hol. Emma's is fantastic, I have always found El Ancla to be very hit and miss and wouldn't recommend it

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread a little bit. Anne. We were in a hotel in Old Town last year but can't remember the name, it was old-times styled but very modern, if ya get me. I think it was an Italian, there was all ship-type stuff inside and fish tanks and the likes, it was down towards the harbour. Any ideas?

It's El Bodegon via the Chapel side and Puerto Viejo on the other side - great local restaurant - fantastic food & service - loads of locals eat there so that's one of the best recommendations you can get.
