Hello all

We are coming out at the end of March to have another look around PDC with a view to finding a place to live in a few year's time. Can anyone suggest a nice quiet apartment block which we can try out? We want to be part of an ex-pat community but also want to let the property out for part of the year (1 or 2 beds)

Thanks everyone!

John

We are in a similar postion to the original poster.I'm almost 50,wife a bit older. Both of loved PDC when we were "stranded" there for an extra week due to the volcanic ash problem.

Our twist is that my parents, who are in their 70's,are considering a joint purchase of a one bed apartment in PDC (probably central and probably on gthe ground floor). They would use the apartment in the winter months and we would be there on a frequent basis in the rest of the year. The wife would hope to have a decent internet connection in order to work for some of the time.

May I ask:-

Is this in any way feasable?
I've seen reasonably decent looking apartments in PDC for 70.000 Euro.Is this the going rate?
Is there an outside chance of renting off the apartment in spare weeks?

Any replies greatfully received.

I think you first need a reputable estate agent (plus a lawyer).

John Kileen from 'Lanzarote Investments' is good (http://www.lanzaroteinvestments.com/). But it might be no harm to compile a list of estate agents in advance of your arriving to do some on-the-ground research. You can compile the list before you arrive and then visit a few before deciding on which one you want.

The internet connection shouldn't be a problem - I'd again ask the estate agent to help sort this out. A good estate agent will point you in the right direction :)

Re: renting the apartment out in spare weeks:

1. I'd say letting it out to holiday-makers would be your best bet. Though I'm not sure how easy this would be. Have a look at the Owners Direct website maybe (http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/).

2. It'd be hard to let the apartment out to a resident since they'd have to move out for the winter months plus whenever you're around.

3. Would you really want someone living in your "home"?

Anyway, hope this helps and good luck with your new venture :)

Many thanks for such a timely and thorough reply.I hope to reciprocate in kind in the near future with my positive thoughts on PDC.I normally post on Trip Advisor should people think that I'm the sort who only asks questions and doesn't contribute in any way.

Thanks once more. Some food for thought.
